I saw a lot of the guys mentioned throughout the thread play, all greats, and I have little doubt that Dwight Anderson was the most talented player. In his prime, he would have owned Kennard.

Before 1985 they made no distinction between first and second team, and in 1998 and 1999 they expanded to a third team.

Jerry Lucas (x3)
Don May
Kevin Grevey
Jim Paxson
Ron Harper (2nd team)

Did I miss anyone?

And I've got to say I'm amazed that Harper is getting left off top-ten lists. I know his high school career was short but he was first-team all-Ohio, second-team all-America, starter on 5 NBA champions, scored 13000+ points in the association. How'd he do all that without top-ten talent? I guess you can make an argument for one of the Paxsons and Lucas is obviously in a class by himself, but what did these other guys ever do to compare?
John Paxson, 1983, not USBWA First Team, but both UPI and NABC First Team

That's one good answer to my question--the divergent career paths of Anderson and Ron Harper had nothing to do with any talent advantage on the part of Harper.

I guess a question would be whether it had anything to do with anything that should be considered as a factor in "best player." And in this particular case even if it did it probably wouldn't factor into "best high school player."

I'm not sure a single person has tried to say Kennard is in The Blurs class but if it makes you feel better keep telling us that. I don't think anybody else knew that

Kennard made another Dukie team under achieve when it matters most. I feel bad for him, all of the pressure that you guys put on him when he really is not that great.

Wow, not fair at all....he is one of many Mcdonald AA on Dukes team. I bet you wished he went to Kentucky. Every top team underachieves but one. Kennard is good, wouldnt be shocked if he left for NBA.

Now your showing your lack of any basketball knowledge. UCLA has 2 first round picks. They did not win their conference, win their conference tournament, or get past the sweet 16. They have a very strong roster. If that is your definition of overachieving greatly, you have zero clue.

And since you are a moron when it comes to Kennard, the above shows the opposite of what you think is probably true.

I forgot how great this thread was a few years ago. Looking back, it's even better as time has progressed. Luke "couldn't start at Dunbar" Kennard turned out to be a Naismith finalist as a sophomore at Duke.

Please find the post that said Mr. Kennard could not start at Dunbar. I would like to see that.
I recall voicing my personnel opinion stating I did not think he was top ten all time at Dunbar but I am biased and was being a little sarcastic. But not starting, That is just silly. I also stated that he was without a doubt one of the 20 best players from the Dayton area. Is he number one. Not my list. I think more in the 5-10 range. (My OP) But it is amazing how folks opinions can turn into personal blasphemy when talking about Lukey the Dukey.

I said it before and I will say it again. Phenomenal Player in the SWBL = equals great player in tougher leagues. How about this question? How does Daquen Cook or Andre Hutson or Tu Tu Brown, Brooks Hall, Kevin Longley how do they do vs. the same competition Luke played in SWBL?? Would their numbers be inflated a little? Just asking? Luke never made it out of the regional because he did not have the talent around him to beat Dunbar! That same talent around him were the same guys he was playing against every night. I watched a game he played I think as a Junior and it was a joke the comp he was playing. It might of been Bellbrook. No one was over 6'2 challenging his shot. He did exactly what he was supposed to do. Fill it up and that was like 12 to 14 games a year playing that comp. He was that good, but please acknowledge the fact the comp was not the stiffest.

I also said I thought he was going to have a good college career which the system at Duke allows him to flourish and he has. When he gets drafted I think his role in the league will be as a spot up shooter which in the right system he will be great. Good for him, great season but came up short in SC game. When the offense is free following and up and down like most of Dukes games are he gets his, plus do not underestimate the fact that with a team full of Mcdonalds All-Americans it makes it hard for any team to really do what SC did to them. Just too much talent. When it slows down and he has to create one on one with athletic defense pressure. I think he struggles a little. My thoughts.. But anyway he is and will always be one of Ohio's greatest players of all time. Just not the best from this area! That title will always belong to Dwight "the Blur" Anderson.

Maybe, but he'll be drafted in the late first round 20-28th pick.

The trouble is your giving another year for the scouts to find flaws and drop your status. Seems like a smart move, as your remove the option of falling out of the 1st.

I think there are plenty of flaws that are already on film. So after 4 underwhelming years of high school and two at Duke he will now enter the pro game. I hope he learns how to win or leans how to accept the role of being a 7th option for a team.

So was it your wife of girlfriend that Kennard slept with?
