$40 million facility at Wittenburg?
I heard that Wittenburg university in Springfield is building a $40 million dollar facility that will have a 300 meter indoor track.
If true that is sweet since SW Ohio literally has no indoor track but cedarville.

You heard correctly. Funding isn't totally lined up yet, though.
More here.

Why would they build a 300 meter track? Every other Division 3 school in the state has a 200 meter track.

Why build a 200 meter track if you can build a 300 meter track?

Football, soccer, you name it. Definitely alot more bang for the buck a university gets out of a 300m indoor track than a 200 oval.
I'd love to see them show some interest in hosting the OATCCC indoor championships. Would be great to perhaps have it alternate years between the NE site(whether thats Akron or Spire), and Wittenberg down here in the SW.
Regardless, great news.

Plus 200m tracks suck. I remember one time racing a 2 mile on one. 16 laps. Felt like I was on a hampster wheel. I dont even know If I did in fact even run 16 laps. Lost count after the 8th lap.

I would prefer the 200 meter for even splits on the distance races. Keep it simple stupid! 😀

Try running the 5k indoors as I did in college. I have also helped time the 5k with 20 plus kids talk about a challenge to keep up with how many laps each kid as run. Enough to make your head spin and hurt.

26 laps on the inside of a hockey rink at Hobart Arena... the cardboard facing on the drywall laid on the ice would "pill" and the little balls of paper would accumulate in the corners like ball bearings.

This brings back the memories. I ran high school and college meets on that track. Always leaning in the outside lanes. Feeling like Matt White was going to lap me in the 1500 when I was in high school. Or that Scott Shorney would in the 400 in college.

Or when people tried to push you into the pole vault pit that inevitably seemed to be sticking out into lane 1 on their track...

And that would be the place where I decide you know what, the 2 mile doesnt need to happen, screw it, Im just running the 800. Which is funny, cause I never ran the 800 in outdoor track. If my high school had a swim team, I mightve just said screw indoor track, im swimming. I bet you my numbers would be terrific.

This is football driven. That is why the 300. They are trying to modify plans now to have seating on top of some lowered classrooms. Similar to what grand valley state has.

Nice facility I'm sure for Wittenberg, but there's no way they could host a big spectator meet like the OATCCC indoor meet with no seating. Oh well.

Remember they are still in the fundraising/planning stage. I suspect by the time they actually start construction seating of some reasonable sort will be included.

Good. The sooner the better.
And I stand by my prediction that there will be some sort of seating as part of the finished product.
