Heath D-2 District Rankings (Off Season #2)

I love doing these rankings, but as it has been pointed out before, they are just for fun. To any wrestlers who read these and feel that they are ranked too low, you may be right.
I am bound to be wrong on many of the rankings, but fortunately they have absolutely no impact on how anyone will finish at any tournament this season or any other year.

I started moving wrestlers up and down from their previous year’s weights. The new weights are partially based off of where they’ve been wrestling in the off season, though a lot of it is pure guesswork at this time.
Please let me know if anyone has inside information about new weights, schools, or wrestlers that they think should be added.

I’ve tried shifting the wrestlers around from schools that changed divisions. Please let me know if any are wrong, or if I’m forgetting any schools/wrestlers.

* = unsure about participation

-The schools of the incoming freshmen are based off of the previous Yappi thread. Please let me know if any are wrong or have changed.

I really like the depth that this district is establishing. There is an influx of talented freshmen to go along with the additions of quality teams like Westfall, Zane Trace, Harrison Central, and Amanda-Clearcreek who will be moving up from D-3.

I expect Claymont to reload as they always do. They always have a few wrestlers emerge as state caliber threats after wrestling as reserves the season before.

Carrollton has some impressive top level talent and I’m willing to bet that they have a few unranked names emerge as state qualification contenders.
I’ll be interest to see where Pasiuk and Shaw opt to wrestle. Pasiuk jumped from 106 to 132 over his first two seasons, and his brother just wrestled 182 as a senior, so I’d guess that he’s continue to grow.
It’s possible that one ends up at 152 where we could see a great district finals bout with Hubbard. It’s also possible that we could see state finalists Grunden and Ramirez wrestling at 152 for the post season with state champ Stickley possibly at 145 and 2x state champs Freeman and Jordan possibly at 160.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baum’s Page, the OVAC website, Inside the Circle, and Jake’s Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

I expected the Beavers to quietly claw their way to the top. Their youth-JH programs are strong and their HS kids have been doing all the right things in the offseason, including some Freestyle training with Jameson.

unbelievable the jr high state placers you put in these rankings.some of them wont even start on there own team and you have them ranked.wait till a half season is in then see if they are worthy of a ranking.seen many jr high placers get handled in the varsity wrestling room by district quallifiers and less.

Please read McClearn7's disclaimer again at the beginning of his post. Just curious, what wrestler(s) would you pick to replace these jh state placer wrestlers?

There's definitely some guesswork involved with the freshmen, but honestly it's mostly guesswork at this point.

I look through a lot of results for the rankings, but there are so many unknowns when it come to which weight-classes these wrestlers will actually be wrestling at during the season.

I figured that I might as well include the freshmen, though I'm sure you're right and I'll be off on some of them.
However, I'm bound to be off on many of the other wrestlers too, because so many make great improvements in the off-season.

It's all for amusement and discussion anyway. If I rank a wrestler too low, it has absolutely no bearing on how he or she will do during the season.

Usually a ms State placer is at least a District qualifier and many times they are pushing for state qualifications. Especially in the lower weights. Yes sometimes they don't break the line up .

I would say for the most part a jh state placer is going to break the line up and have a impact at the sectional and district.

At the lighter weights OAC JH state placers tend to do quite well as freshmen in HS. All you need to do is look at the freshmen state qualfiers at 106/113 in all 3 divisions and you have JH state placers.

Once you hit the middle weights you have a point due to freshmen vs seniors. But at lower weights he is very correct in including middle school state placers.

I agree. When those guys get to high school they will retain that mental and work ethic that got them to the podium. Theses guys aren't just the best of their division, they're the best of the best when combining all kids into one hot mess; those wrestlebacks at Jr. State on a 64(48) man bracket is he'll.

Kid I watched 2 years ago lose his first match at OAC JH state and battle all the way through wrestle backs to place 5th or 6th (can't remember) just took 2nd at HS state last season as a freshman at D3 106.

On this particular thread, the top 4 kids at 106 I have personally watched wrestle for years as they have been in the same or near the same weight class as my kid. This ranking is VERY accurate if I had to pick them in order. 4 top notch wrestlers, 3 frosh and 1 soph.

McComas DNP in 8th grade, state runner up in 9th. lots of things can change. If the kids are wrestlers, they will be just fine.

Logan ours is a beaver local kid I thought? He should be a freshman this year. He's a stud should definitely be ranked in the top 3 I would think? Multiple state and national placer and champ

Minerva lions have a few decent lower weights, keep an eye out for 106 Drake decker and Nolan Smith possibly staying low at 132-138. Smith wrestled tough kids last year, also Evan Hertel also possibly staying down at 138-45 who also had tough matches. Connor Fritz at 160-170 and Travis Kutler at 285. Smith and Hertel both district qualifiers. Kutler was 2016 6th place at districts.
