Murphy has a lifetime 1500 PR of 3:36ish. I'm not sure that "congratulations" would be the accolade that would be appropriate for a last place finish in 3:50+ and that was well behind the finisher in front of him. Methinks his focus will be on tomorrow's 800 final. I'm not quite sure why he bothered with the 1500.

A race is just about time and place and a marriage is just about how many years it lasts.

Clayton Murphy was attempting to do what no one has done for years and managed to qualify for the finals in both the 800 and 1500 in what some are saying is the hottest US Championships ever. Call me Mr. Low Standards but I think that's worth congratulations.

I suppose you think Dustin Horter was a failure for not running the 3200 at State, too.

I don't know why Murphy was so far from the top 3, but it's possible that he had a cramp or simply knew once the race started that it wasn't his day and his best chance to qualify for World's was in the 800 and decided to save himself for that race.

I admire Murphy for taking the risk to pull off something incredible

I have no problem with second-guessing his choices, but why is it so difficult to congratulate an athlete on their efforts? It's not like it costs you anything.

Murphy is shown limping off with what appears to be a hamstring injury. Dang it. I hope not serious.

Yes, he was injured. A DNS for today's 800.
