Will Paul George Play For The Cavs Next Season?

Will the Cavs "rent" Paul George for the 2017-2018 season?

What will they have to give up to get him?

With George saying he won't return to the Pacers, wants to play in LA, and has one year left on his contract, they probably couldn't get much for him.

As much as I'd love to have PG13, I would not want to give up Love who I believe has either 2 or 3 years left on his contract, to get George for probably 1 year.

Don't like giving up Love for those reasons and more, but there is only one team that matters to the Cavs. George matches up better than Love with the GS style. A second championship is worth the gamble. The window is small, anyway. You have to go all in for it while you still have LeBron.

That seems low. Ive seen it listed as high as 300%. Why are you so unsure?

George is really a rent-a-player in that regard, but would he leave if things meshed ? It all hinges on LeBron, again. If he wants to morph into a modern incarnation of Magic AND take less money, they really could be an amazing team.

Someone told me this time last year in here that "older players seldom improve their outside shooting", and look at what the man did with his 3-pointer in the gym in 9 months. If LeBron is still committed to winning in Cleveland, he'll see George as an upgrade over Love against GS and make it work. He has the ability on the floor and with the financials if he chooses.

Love's rebounds will be tough to replace, but easier with George than Butler. And George v. Durant and Green is a step above Butler, even if Butler is enthusiastic about joining Kyrie and LeBron. Love for Butler leaves a void Tristan can't fill alone.

Gilbert has to be nervous as hell. He's put this whole side of his business in LeBron's hands after, I think, pizzing him off.

What if LeBron trades salary for equity position in the Cavs franchise ? Can he somehow be compensated outside of cap restrictions in that manner ? It's been said that he wants to own an NBA team eventually.

Butler would be preferable to George. But neither gets them past Golden State.

Why? They already got past GS once, and there will be changes there as well. GS will not be able to keep Curry, Thompson, Green and Durant for long

They beat them in a series that came down to the last minute of game 7, then GS added one of the 5 best players in the world. Silly to act like 2016 has any relevancy going forward.

Why ? Butler's outside shooting is < George, he's 3" shorter so less effective defensively on Durant and Green. Are you merely referring to being under contract for a few years ? He's a better JR, not a Love upgrade, so why do you prefer him ?

His opinion. Nothing more.

Have you read all that much on basketball under his username to be all that concerned about his opinion ?

I remember one of us said the Warriors would win in 5 and the other two predicted a close series/Cavs win, so you tell me.

Paul George is not an upgrade to Love. They don't and won't even play the same position. Also since we're on the subject and the Cavs got raped on the boards, with Love being one of two bright spots in that subject, check out PG's rebounding numbers.

Also, Jimmy Butler is under contract longer and a better player than Paul George. The 3 point shooting is negligible, rebounding is almost the same, better passer, turns it over less, gets to the rim and free throw line infinitely better than Paul George. In fact looking into it, I'm shocked at how bad Paul George is at getting to the free throw line which in turn shows how awful he is at getting to the rim. Jimmy's also a better defender.

Both Butler and PG would improve the Cavs, but with Butler posting an elite 25 PER this past season, he's obviously playing at a higher level.

So, Butler's on record as saying he'd like to play with Kyrie and kick out to someone like Korver. 4 months ago.

The problem is, why would Chicago not deal him to the West if they want to get something for him ? Why would having Kevin Love make it worth it to Chicago to see Butler in the playoffs ? Or, who, that wants Love, can give Chicago enough to make having Butler in their way worthwhile ? I don't see Ainge dealing away those picks he's piled up to end up with Love. Anyone else hoarding picks ?

I think George might free Lebron to do some Love-type things, though. Not sure he wants to...

If Love gets traded I will be sick. He is a great rebounder and deferred his scoring to LeBron and Kyrie, yet still averaged 19/11 this year. I would have him on my team any day. If he gets traded and becomes a featured player on offense again, he will go right back to averaging 25/15 like he did for Minnesota in the past.

He's a garbage defender and you can't play him & TT together.

The Cavs need to figure out a way to play their 4 best players at the same time. Right now, you can't do that. If you move Love for George or Butler, you can.

Partial agreement here, with corrections. He is a sub-par perimeter defender and you can't play him and TT together against Golden State.

If I'm starting a team tomorrow and you offer me Love or George, I'm taking Love every time. I'll grant that I'd rather have George against the GSW.

Well, you'll likely have to get past GS again next year, so you should be lobbying for George.

Yeah, Cleveland might be the 4-5th best team in the NBA now. Good point!
