OA Bees 14u (Barth) pitcher throws 141

Congrats to the OA Bees (barth) 14u for advancing to the finals of the Buckeye Elite on a 141 pitch performance by their pitcher. Despite taking a year off and considering Tommy John surgery just last season, the boy was able to throw 141 pitches today after pitching yesterday as well!!! Way to go Ohio Athletics!!

Was this a troll? Is someone really happy that a 14 year old already considering having missing body parts threw 140 pitches? Or did i miss the sarcam?

Ah, I see some clarification is needed:
It wasn't 140 pitches. It was 141. And, the consideration was for an upgrade of body parts rather than removal. How many more pitches would it have taken to impress you?

That's awful...I remember seeing a 10U player throw 129 pitches in Columbus and thinking that was child abuse.

141 pitches
20-25 pitch bullpen
8 pitches the first inning warm-up
5 pitches each other inning warm-up

I'm assuming they went all 7 innings.........about 200 pitches for the young man.

It was very important to a group of grown men that they win the game. It's all about winning the game.

You see it too often...I'm thankful for pitch counts more than inning limits in youth/HS baseball.

Ohio Athletics is Creating a Legacy

Maybe the coach thought it was innings not pitch counting. There is a new management sign on the website. I sure hope they won the game. Did the pitcher throw the next day or was he given a days rest at least?

Ya, you are probably correct. That, or maybe his limit was 150. I wonder what the count would have been if he hadn't pitched the day before?

If this is true, and I assume it is so, isn't it about time that these tournament directors institute some type of pitch count rule, since you alway have a couple of moron coaches who fail to get the concept of protecting kids arms, rather than abuse them just for the gratification of winning a few games. In this case, poster refers to the Buckeye Elite, a very well respected and recruited tournament, who can't even implement such a rule. Finally high school coaches have to abide by such pitch limits, why not these high level tournament organizations?

I don't think there were any pitching rules...none that I could find. Some of the 15U & 16U tournaments I attended this year had zero pitching limits...up to the coaches. Some coaches are not equipped to handle that decision. LOL!

https://www.buckeyeelite.com/Default...dPolicies.aspx

Perfect Game tournaments have a pretty tight pitch limit...more rest and less pitches allowed than OHSAA.

A few tournaments require gamechanger app use. It would be nice to see all the tournaments and leagues use it. It allows for a true pitch count rule without penalizing a ground ball pitcher. I am pretty sure that just about every team was using it anyhow.

From everything I've read on this forum travel coaches never abuse their players. Only the less knowledgeable high school coaches pitch players until their arms fall off. Travel coaches are way smarter and have a plethora of pitchers to choose from.

Wow, another in a long line of coaches who have absolutely no business being around youth sports! Unbelievable. I guess my second thought is, where the heck are this kid's parents? If they were at the game and allowed it, they are almost as much responsible as the coach.

Thr parents shouldn't have to keep a pitch count, and a common excuse by coaches is "dad said it was ok to leave him in a little longer".

This should never ever fall on the parents! Some parents don't even understand what a good pitch count is. Some parents never even played sports and have no clue. I lived next to a couple whose son was an absolute beast in sports and they didn't have a clue. They just showed up and cheered him on.

The only people this falls on outside of the coaching staff is the organization that allows them to coach out of their facility.

No gamechanger for the OA bees (interesting), but the opponent has one-
You will have to sign up as a fan of the team to see the box score of the game, including counts.

Well, I can't agree with that, but I see your point. As a parent, I've made it a point to understand the good and bad for my son (in regards to pitching). Not saying that's the norm, but in my case, I would have stepped in.

The organization is as fault for sure...for letting this type of coaching represent them.

As it turns out, he pitched the day before. At least according to the Precision Patriots 14u gamechanger. So, he was on zero days rest.

You are correct. He pitched all 7 innings plus 1.1 innings the day before according to the opponents gamechanger atats.

Well done, nobc, but my son is 9 and threw 150 pitches twice in 3 days to win our 9u tournament. Epic, 9-inning battles, both of them.

No. He had it the week before he pitched.
