ok so basically anything under a uniform can be whatever you want and any color.....also uniforms can have "slight variations" for CC and track trelays

So does that also mean they don't have to be the same color? Think the answer is they DO NOT.

Just remember that this batch of rule changes won't go into effect until 2019, so the upcoming XC season is still subject to the current uniform and foundation garment rules that drive many people crazy.

Two things I want to emphasize before I comment on the contents of this press release:

1. The NFHS press release (which is what the OHSAA has re-distributed here) is often written poorly written and the way the rule reads when the book is published has been materially different at times.
2. As Mr. Slippery pointed out, these are changes for 2019. The OHSAA uses the rule books which are distributed for calendar years, not school years.

Keep these in mind as you purchase uniforms in the next five months.

Now, regarding the contents of the release.

As an official, having relay teams and cross country teams that have matching undershirts has been helpful at times in identification. I'll get over it.

As a parent, I kind of liked the philosophy that we didn't want our young people being walking billboards for the various athletic apparel. I'm a little disappointed that we lost this battle, but I understand how much of a pain it was to find apparel that did meet the specs. At least the uniform tops and bottoms can still only have the one logo.

The rule and note regarding clearly identifiable uniforms for relays and cross country is great! I've been touting that rule for several years ever since I read it in the NCAA rule book. It's quite ironic that the NCAA will be getting more strict with their uniforms this year as the NFHS becomes more relaxed.

Measuring the disc and the javelin to the lesser inch or centimeter...that's fine. Can we get the OHSAA to use metric in the tournaments? If they do, then all the regular season meets will follow. And it's sooooooo much easier to use.

ALL field events should be using metric. The U.S. initially put plans in place to convert to metric in the late 60's and early 70's. Metric Conversion Act of 1975 and never followed through. Ridiculous. You would have your whiners for a brief period, but they would get over it and realize it's much better even for spectators... yes, they learn to adapt, too.
