Week 5: Coldwater (4-0) @ Fort Recovery (2-2)

Coldwater is coming off of a nice win against the Minster Wildcats 31-20 and the Fort Recovery Indians are coming off of a loss to the vastly improved New Bremen Cardinals 19-15. Fort Recovery has lost in close ball games in these last 2 weeks. We know they are a competitive football team and we have to be ready for them. Looking forward to another MAC contest.

Coldwater 35
Fort Rec 13

HATS off to the Cavs Friday night, Hemmelgarn, tough QB, slippery runner, boys never could get a good shot on him... and No 41 is a PLAYER...good luck to your boys in the future...

I've said it each week.... FR is young and very talented. Their success depends on how quickly they mature.

I expect the Tribe to be ready to battle Friday night.

Very physical on both sides of the ball. We didn't match their physicality.

Bornhorst at QB is a tough runner and has a good arm with nice touch.

NB ran read option all night. Give the "give" read. The tailback isn't nearly the threat as the QB.

They also had a lot of success with the QB Draw. Gotta stay disciplined in the defensive assignments.

The kicker is solid up to 40 yards. He really can shorten the field.

Defensively, attack the middle of the field with the slant route. The safety likes to creep up presnap. The slot receiver deep post and slant are wide open. We continued inexplicably to attack the sideline fade.

While it seemed as though NB was in control most of the game, they really weren't. Our defense stiffened and held them to FG's on 4 drives. We led late and NB made a great throw and catch on 3rd and 11 for a long TD. The D back was there, NB just made a better play.

We are a young team (9 sophomores seeing significant snaps). Young team tend to play to the level of their opponents. The boys were ready for Minster and came out ready. They looked to take NB lightly and got burned. lesson learned hopefully.

There are plenty of points left on the schedule, the season is not lost. We need to mature quickly however and give consistent effort and intensity regardless of the opponent. THERE ARE NO EASY WINS IN THE MAC!

Bigkat, I was really impressed with how quick your boys were. You have a real good football team and they are well coached.

Definitely the team to beat in d7.

Coldwater will be too quick for the Fort.

I'll say same score as StateChamp.

Not much to tell. Small size-wise, but very quick to the ball. Receiving corps is loaded with play makers, and have a nice, young QB who can deliver the ball.

QB made some mistakes last week, but credit Minster's quickness on defense. The Cavs could have put the game away in the second quarter, but got stooped on first and goal from the one or two yard line (can't remember) just before halftime.

Definitely a better Coldwater team this year than last.

I just think the Cavs might be too quick for the Indians on Friday. Think a small swarm of bees, that's kind of what they play like out there. Definitely fun to watch.

Good luck to both teams, and please, no more injuries.

Go Cavs!

#ShaneStrong.

Plenty of receiving targets in Cole Frilling, Will Broering, Noah Miller, Alex May, Jacob Wenning (when he comes back from injury), and Mitch Niekamp out of the backfield, and some others that are capable if called upon. Smart Qb who is methodical with the ball and has the ability to take off when he needs to. We have 2 very capable backs in Mitch Niekamp and Ben Wenning. We have an offensive line that can get the job done and they only go 1 way. We have a defensive Unit that is undersized but they fly to the ball and have been fairly bend but don't break. They are no longer untested.

that pretty much sums it up....Cavs defense are great tacklers, QB throw a good ball, and is as shifty at running the ball as I've seen in awhile( one exception being Kline from Crestview) they are going to be tough to beat.....dang and that 18 play 4th quarter drive for the FG was great football on Coldwaters part.....would have liked to have 1 more drive with us down by just 8 and not 11....oh well, next game!!!

Yes, it was 1st and goal from the 2. Surprised the Cavs just didn't go smash mouth instead of passing and rolling out.

I believe it's the "Orange Swarm". The Cav theme this year.

We did that a bit too much IMO.

I do like the Orange Swarm theme. Describes our defense pretty good.

Defense is giving up way too many points to earn that, or any, cool moniker. T

Yeah, to really good teams. Kenton, Massie, and Minster. Only 2 scores given up to a top ranked Minster squad.

Actually think FR can keep this game close if they use Schmitz legs more than his arm. Put a RB next to Schmitz to lead block and shorten the game . Schmitz is no speedster but is bigger than most of CW's defensive players and just gain 2,3, 4,yds a carry and move the sticks. Of course FR can not turn the ball over.

I think the Schmitz boy ran by design once against Minster, kinda surprise me, because last year he picked up a few yards rushing against us....if the boys from Recovery can catch the ball, Recovery could make it interesting...good luck to both teams....stay healthy.

I disagree, doubt very much FR is going to pass the ball with much success against CW with out first establishing some semblance of a running game and as big as Schmitz is with Fort's big O-line, run the ball. The reason ML has had success against CW, good defense and the ability to run the football.

Always sounds weird being called "Recovery." Sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Running the football absolutely is critical. Running the football with Schmitz is not a good idea. We have several very capable backs that can carry the rock.
