SW Ohio Regional Semi-Finals

Loveland - Fairfield
Mason - Springboro

Indian Hill - Bellbrook
Badin - Tippecanoe

Lehman Catholic - Madeira
West Liberty Salem - Summit Country Day

Itís getting down to crunch time - not much margin for error at this point. Thoughts on these matchups?

Loveland over FF 2-0 (both goals off set pieces)
Springboro 1, Mason 0 (Mason's attack not strong enough, Boro scores off a PK)
IH 3, Bellbrook 1 (Bellbrook's easy schedule will hurt them playing a tough opponent)
Madeira over Lehman 3-2 in PKs (just guessing here)
Summit 3, West Liberty 0 (Summit just too talented)

Yep...playing Chaminade Julienne twice, Northmont, Carroll, Fenwick, Alter, Mariemont, Valley View twice, Monroe twice and Oakwood twice and not losing to any of them will really hurt them in a tough game.

They also srimmaged Centerville...winning and Lebanon. The idea they play nothing but weak teams is just not true. Indian Hill is an awesome team and may well win...but Bellbrook has been fairly tested this season.

Dreaming if you think Bellbrook has a chance !
Won't even be a game for IH !

Summit will walk to the state Final as long as AR is playing.

Loveland is very good at set pieces, but very average at best on the field and that is where they could fail , they should of worked on possesion instead of always trying to get corners ?

this will come back to bite them in the butt if they get behind.

I'm sure you're correct...I will call the coach and tell him to just cancel the trip. Maybe Waynesville's PK game with IH was just a mirage.

There was a pretty conspicuous reason for that.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Bellbrook stands no chance, but drawing any conclusion from the Waynesville game isn't a good idea.

there you go soccerfan all back at it now world is right. bellbrook stands a solid chance against ih and if one player made that much of a difference versus waynesville then that says a lot. bellbrook keeper is fun to watch and could be the difference maker if it comes to pks. swbl upset alert write it down i think alter tied ih and bellbrook

Both sisters are back for us. Bellbrook is good but IH at full strength again is hard to beat.

Looking forward to these games.

IH Sisters played in Alter game. Alter midfielder (scored first goal) and winger go down to injury in first half and did not come back in second half. Alter still came out with a tie. We played both teams and it should be interesting game. If close, Bellbrook goalie will be the difference.

However, IH forward is TREMENDOUS player along with little sis and Jackson's daughter these girls are difference makers. They are going to be hard to beat. On paper IH wins but this is soccer so you never know. Looking forward to watching this one.

It is. The U-18 National Team is fairly important.

Loveland gave up a total of 3 goals all season. Also, in order to get corners and flip throw opportunities means you have to have the ball in the attacking third, so that means something.

Any team can pass the ball around the back and say they "possessed" the ball and people make the mistake of equating this with being the better team. Possession does not win games, scoring goals wins games. When you have the best strikers in the city, the best option is to get them the ball directly, and that is what Loveland does.

Well, scrimmages mean nothing so throw that out....

6 of their games are against cupcakes (Eaton, Brookville and Franklin twice)

Alter is tough, Northmont....but then the rest are average D2 schools. Fenwick won 3 games. CJ ehhh. The top Dayton D2 schools(besides Alter) are just not at the caliber of the top D2 and D3 Cinci schools.

I have nothing against the Golden Eagles, in fact I have some strong connections there. But for years I have been saying that to take that program to the next level they need to play some top out of conference games or lobby to only play league teams once. You can't play 6 games like that and go undefeated every other year and grow as a program. Yes is it nice to win 9-0 but that will come back to haunt you.

I'll take Loveland, Springboro, Indian Hill, Badin, Madeira, and Summit.

buck - Don't let the fact that Loveland can score off set pieces cloud your perception of their ability in the run of play. "Very average at best" is obvious hyperbole, but I won't argue with you as the play speaks for itself.

I think they would be favored against anyone left in the region but could legitimately lose at any point now - will be fun to watch how they play. And if they go down a goal we will see just how "average" they are.

I never said Loveland wasn't any good , I said they rely on the set pieces too much.
I watched them play this season several times and they do play a lot of kick and run soccer expecting a mistake by the defense and they flop a lot.

The upper teams in the State do not play that way ?

Sycamore opened the door and showed the way, Loveland can be beat, doesn't matter how many goals they have scored or how many they gave up, it only takes one !
If Loveland gets off to a good start and gets rolling they are fine.
It's when the game slows down do they have trouble and most teams now will back up and pack the box and play defense wait for the Loveland defense to push into their half and then counter over the top.
We will see, it is now or never for Loveland they lose lot of good players after this.

buck - agree to disagree. I say play to your strengths. It's worked out ok thus far. They're more than capable of scoring every which way and bunkering is nothing new for them to deal with. You are right about one thing though - anything can happen in the tourney.

And Loveland loses a lot after this year - but they've got some talent coming up the ranks. Maybe not dominant next year, but certainly a top contender.

Yeah, it was a mirage. IH was all over W'ville. I think W'ville had two shots in regulation to IH's 20. Maybe more than 20. I would love to see the stats. I give it up to W'ville though. They were totally outgunned and did what they had to do, play physical. Refs allowed the physical play (not saying it was dirty, nor blaming refs as IH had TONS of opportunities) and that gave W'ville an edge to stay competitive.
To take B'brook lightly would be a mistake. They took down a very good Alter team. This is soccer, anything can happen. I expect a tight game. "On paper" IH is the better team, but the soccer ball can't read.....and this is the playoffs.

Ricardo is my name and Futbol is my game. Alter is winning state no doubt about it. Heard they've got some girl named Lindsey Gross, transfer from Valley View who can really kick it. She's gonna lead the Knights to Columbus.

I'll bet you $1,000 that Alter doesn't make it to Columbus this year, deal?

Heard someone was disrespecting my daughter's team and I won't stand for it. Just be careful what you say online you can really hurt peoples feelings. Sure they lost, but they had a great year and they are heartbroken.

2 things:

1 - nothing was disrespectful about my post so if you took it that way then I'm sorry you are looking for a fight that doesn't exist. Alter lost last round, and then this morning someone claimed they are winning state. I said Alter will not win state

2 - based on your name (Alder) I feel like maybe you are referring to Jonathan Alder while I am referring to Archbishop Alter.

Nobody is disrespecting your daughters team !

But look dude we are not giving her a trophy either ?

Unless you think they should all get one?

As a matter of fact we should just call them all winners and cancel the playoffs.

Then no one would care about the soccer at all.

There can only be one ! That is what makes this so special and so emotional !
