Woods is awful. I don't care what he did at Wake Forest because they're awful. A big key to Thad succeeding early was a couple of experienced transfers in JJ Sullinger and Je'Kel (sp.?) Foster. Woods is nowhere near the level of those guys. Major swing and a miss as far as grad transfers go.

Once again, unless these are the exact same players from 2005-2006, your point is moot. But let's play your game. 86.7% of Ohio State's scoring in 2005-2006 came from juniors or seniors. This year, only 40.4% comes from juniors or seniors. Thad Matta left Ohio State with just two upperclassmen and I'm not sure why you continually choose to ignore that. And without a Kentucky or Duke level freshman class, you can't compete without upperclassmen.

Again, you are right. Matta was an exceptional coach. Unfortunately for Ohio State, he was downright terrible at the end of his time in Columbus and now Ohio State is in it's current situation. If he hadn't absolutely botched the 2015 class (0/5 remaining), 2016 class (2/4 remaining) and 2017 class (had 1 commit until Holtmann took over) then Ohio State might be a little better.
Recruiting, especially in-state, retention and player development was God awful his last few years outside of KBD and Tate, and it's why he's no longer the coach. That 2015 class was loaded on paper coming in, and it fizzled out as a group almost immediately. Young was a top-75 recruit and Matta made virtually no effort to get him. This is very much still his mess.

I hate to say it, but I'm glad they showed him the door a couple of years ago. With the obvious downward trend his last few years it would be a total dumpster fire right now if he was still the coach two years later, possibly to the point of off-setting all of the good things that he previously accomplished and requiring a full cycle of the next coach's guys to correct things. His declining health and the declining quality of his staff, with a touch of Marc Loving, crushed his program.

To make only one fg in the last 12 min. of the game is almost unbelievable, the end of season can not come fast enough.
Now, that was painful! Damn good game up until that point.

Just proves that the best players in Ohio can't compete with the one and done in and around the country.

Ugly start but ran away from Northwestern in the second half for a much needed win.

Fascinating how on social media the basketball program accounts have probably 5x as much activity when the team loses as opposed to when they win like tonight. Ohio State fans are spoiled and carry over their lofty football expectations to the hardwood ever year, despite the Bucks having been a program of high peaks and lower valleys for forever. If this is the valley, then Holtmann is going to do pretty well. How well remains to be seen.

I have nothing but praise for the job that Holtmann has done. Most realistic fans probably knew this year may not be pretty. The incoming class next year should be a huge boost for what returns.

This team, while clearly not worthy of a tourney spot, still has a pretty good chance because there are a LOT of teams in the same boat. Heck, the Pac-12 might only get their Conference Champion into the dance. The Rutgers and Illinois games obviously hurt. The Sparty game here would have been a HUGE win. Hopefully, they pull some magic out and maybe beat Maryland or Wisconsin. It will be an uphill battle, but not impossible.

Bucks go 2-2 down the stretch and get a win in B1G tourney and I think they are in. Have to win this one tonight. Man, those losses to Rutgers and Illini really, really sting now. Go Bucks!! Brian1227 sucks!

It is amazing that OSU could make the tourney with a 9 - 11 BIG record. Several years ago the Bucks went 11 - 7 in the BIG and did not make the tourney. Personally I think a team should have to have a winning record in their conference to make the tourney. This would enable more teams from the mid majors into the tournament.

Big win in dominant fashion against #22 Iowa. Probably enough to secure them a spot in the tournament. Justin Ahrens coming out party with 29 points, 6th most for freshman in OSU history.

Huge win. McCaffery running down the refs in the hallway after the game and going off on profanity laced outburst.
I don't expect a win at Purdue. Have to beat Northwestern on road and then a toss-up against Wiscy.

Say they go 1-2, I think they need at least one 'W' in the B1G tourney.

So you would rather schools with less talent and play lesser competition make it in over schools that play in power conferences?

Yes. To me that is what makes the NCAA tourney great, gives the little guy a chance to compete against the big boys.

I agree. I'd be shocked if they win at Mackey. They have to win at NW and either beat Wisconsin or get a BIG tournament win. If they beat NW and get both of those things IMO they're definitely in.

So, you think teams like BG (11-2 in conference), Kent State (9-6), Central Michigan (9-6), deserve it more than Ohio State (8-9)?

I could care less if their more deserving or not, that is subjective anyways. I just think a team should at least have a winning conference record to make the tourney unless thy win their own conference tourney. Was the team that def. U of Va. in the 1st rd. last year deserving ? A lot of people before the game last year would have probably said no but to me that is what makes the tournament so great the little guy gets their shot to prove they do belong.

UMBC won their conference tournament. So, they were an automatic bid. I totally get (and like) the little dog getting their shot at the big dogs. In some cases, I bet having a sub .500 record in conference play works against some teams depending on their situations.

Welp! Wesson suspension might be what dooms the tourney bid. Assuming they don't win a game. Depending on when/if he comes back.

Rumor is he failed a drug test. 3 game suspension like Loving and Williams the previous two years. Back for the Big 10 tourney. We'll see, the statement did say he'll be back this season.
