It's just he doesn't get on base often.

Yup, 2-5 in the order have shown they can bring runs home, if the guys ahead get on base; Hamilton just needs to increase his OBP....350 is decent; 400+ would make this a great offense.

If only Billy could hit like Joey.

Yes, we've established this hundreds of times. But he's still, even with not getting on base as much as we like, a very above average, effective centerfielder and able to do things in baseball that few can do.

Imagine if he was just average at getting on base. The Reds would be so much better on offense.

We've had dozens and dozens of Reds players over the past decade that we wish could have hit like Joey? He's arguably one of the best offensive players the Reds franchise has ever had.

Billy is already the best player to ever don a Reds jersey. Hitting like Joey would likely cement him as the best baseball player of all time.

Exactly EP and very true.

Cozart, Suarez and Votto are the only Reds with OBP over .350, which one should bat lead off?

Over the course of the season with 600 plate appearances an OBP of .310 (Hamilton's) is 186 times on base. The league average is .326 or 195 times on base. The season is roughly a quarter of the way over so in 2 fewer times on base, Hamilton has scored more runs than any other leadoff hitter in baseball.

Would you prefer he get on base more often but not score as much?

Billy scores 51% of the times he gets on base. If he was "league average" that would equate to 1 more run at this point in the season and 5 for the entire season.

Imagine if Hamilton was "just average" at scoring runs.

Imagine if every Red could hit like Ted Williams or Babe Ruth or pitch like Tom Glavine or Cy Young.

Yeah, Votto, Cozart, Duvall and Schebler have done a fantastic job driving in runs so far. Good point.

As a lead off hitter, he should be above league average. What's the league average OBP for leadoff hitters? Did you do the math for .350 OBP? What does it come out to then?

You talk about Billy scoring runs like he's doing it himself. Sure he can swipe bases and get himself to 2nd or 3rd, but he needs the hitters behind him to get him in.

Billy, if he's lucky enough to get on base. I'm not sure what the issue is for you, it's pretty easy. Billy has scored a lot because he's improved his OBP AND the guys behind him are mashing right now. If he gets on base at a higher rate, he scores even more runs as those solo homeruns become 2-run hrs.

About 1/3 of the way through the season, 24-25 only 2.5 games back of first. I think that's a pleasant surprise.

Solid game today vs. struggling Phils. My kind of game - lots of runs.

Add to the fact that the Reds have the worst starting pitching in all of baseball, and it's a miracle they are one game under .500. The offense has been great, the bullpen has been lights out and the defense has been great as well.
