Dallas Skyline thumps Cocoa Fla

Skyline beat Cocoa 36-20 in a game which could've been more like 50-7. Skyline had 5 turnovers and Cocoa scored on the opening kickoff and a recovered fumble at the Skyline 1.

So how did Colerain look compared to Skyline. Skyline - a lot more athletes and speed. They had a lot more speed than Cocoa and that's saying something. Skyline's offense much better. They can throw really well and very explosive running. Defense goes to Colerain. Skyline has better athletes but not nearly as fundamentally sound. Skylines defensive line manhandled Cocoa.

Who'd win . Don't know. There's a reason Skyline usually loses in the first or second round. They just make too many mistakes. On the other hand they have a lot of D1 talent. Plus their QB this year can really throw the ball and they have terrific receivers.

Funny Thing

Before any snaps had been taken this year and I saw this match up, I went "Oh No" They are putting the Bad News bears out there to play a Florida team. But I heard they had a good team this year and yes they did look like the Bad News Bears at times but they had enough talent to overcome it. I agree with what you said. They should have smoked em by thirty points. But on the other hand, come playoff time if they turn it over five times like they did today, they will exit in the first round again.

Cocoa is probably not as good as last year's team. They had one real difference maker last year. They don't have one this year. Their passing game is simply nonexistent this year. For their enrollment though they are darn good.

On Maxpreps it shows 31 guys on there roster. Dont know if thats correct or not but for 31 players they are a good team.

Just for fun...

Wouldn't argue with that prediction. Like i posted before, Colerain reminds me of Katy. No matter how many D-1 athletes Skyline had, I would never pick them to beat a solid Katy team. From what I read about Glenville on these boards they sound a lot like Skyline. Lot's of talent but lacking certain intangibles.

DeSoto, TX beat Douglass, OK by a score of 63-0. I believe Douglass was defending state champs in Oklahoma (don't know which division), but it was their 2011 opener this year.

Texas was 3-0 in the Herbstreit yesterday against OOS teams.

The calpreps model has Desoto ranked #1 and Skyline #4 in 5A Texas.

Rank School Rating
1 De Soto (TX) 67.5
2 Allen (TX) 64.3
3 Katy (TX) 61.5
4 Skyline (Dallas, TX) 60.2
5 Carroll (Southlake, TX) 58.7
6 Trinity (Euless, TX) 58.5
7 Coppell (TX) 56.3
8 Marcus (Flower Mound, TX) 54
9 Bowie (Arlington, TX) 53.3
10 Longview (TX) 52.9

You will find out everything you need to know about Glenville in a thread over on the only football board. Every year plenty of D-1 (BCS schools) talent but very undisciplined and usually many mistakes clost them games they should win. If only they could put it all together god knows many state titles they'd have. Since 2000 they have only been in one title game(2009) and lost to Hillard Davidson 16-15.

The Texas herbie was a joke. Whoever schedules these games needs to be fired. Douglass, and Karr were terrible. Karr had just been blown out in La. on a Wednesday, and then don't practice before flying out to Texas. That's a recipe for another blow out. Douglass is a small school in Oklahoma. Neither of those teams should've been playing. Cocoa has always been overrated.

The Texas Herbie needs to schedule schools with comparable enrollments. The Texas schools all had 3000 plus students ( Skyline well over 4000) while the out of state schools were all under 1000. The games didn't prove anything more than a good big school can beat a good small school rather badly.
