Does Daylight Saving Time Bother You?

DST has been used in the U.S. since WW1 and became federal law over 50 years ago. Some people claim it has severe negative effects:

Is this a real problem or more snow flake stuff?

It's no big deal. Also true that any benefit gain is long past.

Because of the 60 minute time change?

I bet sunburns increase during DST too, but not because the hands on the clock changed.

I can see why people like you who simply make things up could find this amusing. Those of us who use facts (and decent English) don't find much funny about people having major health events.

Using some decent English, I read a couple of the studies. One was on Canadian drivers, the other on Swedish people already vulnerable to heart problems. But I'm sure its the clock thing that did it

If losing sixty minutes of sleep is the true cause for such catastrophic events, then we should never stay up late to go out somewhere or enjoy a good book or TV show.

Or if its so crucial, maybe go to bed earlier the day before?

If these studies are valid, then one would presume that there are zero increases of such events in the places that don't change to DST.

Here's a more rational view of DST than the "sky is falling" crowd.

DST actually is better for driving if you count then entire DST range and not just the week after. Turns out more light is better for driving

Once again, Arizona doesn't mess around with DST. The time stays the same all year round.

We should probably bar traveling from the east coast to the west coast and international travel too.

Lack of sleep is extremely detrimental to health to the point to where it's now thought that lack of sleep is a primary contributor to Alzheimer's. Check out the book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. Pretty eye-opening stuff.

The further south you go the less sense it makes. Also way north it is pointless. The whole thing seems a waste of time... about a hour.

Sleep is very important, but losing 60 mins a year isnít a significant issue. And thatís presuming it isnít made up by going to sleep earlier or sleeping in later.

Jeez Louise. That may be or may not be true for chronic, repetitive lack of sleep. But this thread is about a sixty minute change one time per year.

Havenít read that book, but everything Iíve read about the research linking sleep and Alzheimerís tells me they are on the right track.

Basically the theory is when you sleep your brain cells shrink down in size and CSF (fluid your brain floats in) flows through that opened space to flush/wash away toxins (for example Tau Protein which is believed to be linked to Alzheimerís)

I don't care about losing the hour once a year, I just prefer to have more daylight in the evening rather than the morning. 5:15 sunsets in December get a little depressing. Stay on DST all the time
