74kg bronze:
JORDAN. EARNEST. BURROUGHS. BRONZE. MEDAL.
Seventh medal for Burroughs. Beats Chamizo 4-4, wrestled great. Chamizo didn't take down Burroughs once, absolute great match.

There was an exchange that made it 3-2 that I still don't understand. Looks like Burroughs took down Chamizo and turned him, they went OOB, and Chamizo kinda landed on Burroughs after getting turned. They called it 2 for Jordan and 2 for Chamizo, but I don't agree at all. Burroughs shoulda been up 6-1 there, wasn't as close as the 4-4 score shows.

Because Burroughs won a medal, he will get to sit out US Open and WTT next year. This could be huge since I think Kyle Dake is gonna drop back down and attempt to go 74kg to prep for Tokyo 2020.

At 97 kg/213.75 lbs., 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion Kyle Snyder (Columbus, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) opens up against Baasanjargal Ulziikhan of Mongolia, who was third in the 2018 Buryatia Republic Cup in Russia.

Also in Snyder’s half-bracket is two-time World bronze medalist Pavlo Oliynik of host Hungary.

The opposite side of the bracket from Snyder is loaded. Included are 2016 Olympic champion, 2014 and 2015 World champion and 2017 World silver medalist Abdulrashid Sadulaev of Russia, 2017 World bronze medalist Aslanbek Alborov of Azerbaijan, 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Magomed Ibragimov of Uzbekistan and Elizbar Odikadze of Georgia (fifth in World/Olympics three times)

Former Clarion AA Bekzod Abdurakhmanov wins bronze over Demirtas of Turkey. Demirtas at the end was mad Bezkod was evading the takedown, but I haven't seen the Turk shoot that many times in the last three years combined. Maybe he shoulda shot a bit more in the first five minutes and 50 seconds

The Russian Sidakov holds on for gold, 2-2 over Kentchadze (Georgia). Tournament of the year for Sidakov, he deserved that one.

Friev from Spain takes bronze at 86kg, 7-2. My random Friev fact is he beat Zahid Valencia at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2015. The USA sent some guys on the junior world team to a senior level tournament. Valencia took silver, Nathan Butler and Mark Hall took bronze. I wish they did that again, it was interesting to see.

57, 65, 74, 86, 97, 125- same as 2016. So no 61, 70, 79, or 92.

And get out those vuvuzelas because Yazdani Charati wins bronze over Russia. He was the second best guy in the world at this weight probably. His fourth world/Olympic medal as well, and he is pretty young.

DAVID TAYLOR WORLD CHAMP. Beats Erdin 12-2 and finishes an excellent first World Championships appearance. Amazing performance by Taylor, brings some serious momentum into 2019 and 2020.

And Gwiazdowski caps an excellent day for Team USA, winning 7-2 over India. That's a gold and three bronzes for USA today, in first place in the team race as well. Snyder and Green tomorrow with Gilman wrestling for bronze and Dake/Cox for gold.

Thank you. I've never been compelled to pay attention to the team score at International events prior to last year. Now its like a regular thing. I'm going to have to learn the International rules better. I appreciate your contribution to this thread and the board in general with your knowledge about the happenings beyond our local wrestling scene.

I was looking at that after I read your message and if I figured it right he could end up either 7th (8 pts) or 8th (6 pts)

Ceban from Moldova can score more points, but I think he has to make the bronze match to do so. So he'd get 3rd/5th points. I may be wrong though

Bracket breakdown for the two weights tomorrow:

70kg- Green (ranked #8) gets the Junior world champ Gadzhiyev first round. Gadzhiyev beat Zhamalov in the finals of Junior worlds, and Zhamalov looked amazing to me, so maybe the Azeri can hang in there. Green's second round guy should be Bat Erdene (Mongolia, #20). The problems come in the quarters- a showdown with Gazimagomedov (Russia, #1). Gazi was a World champ in 2015 (beat Yazdani Charati in the finals actually) in a weight where Green finished 3rd. The Russian should face Iakobishvili (Georgia, #3, 2017 World champ) in the semis, meaning even if the Russian wins Green will have to beat Iakobishvili for bronze. It's a draw that looks a lot like 5th or DNP. Top half is weak, one ranked guy (Kvyatkovskyy, Ukraine, #7), although Safaryan was a 2013 World champ and Batirov wreslted for bronze last year I believe.

Predictions: Gold- Gazimagomedov, Silver- Kvyatkovskyy, Bronzes- Iakobishvili, Batirov

97kg- Like I mentioned earlier, Snyder has a clear path to the finals. One other ranked guy in his half (Olinyk, Hungary, #19) who Snyder has wrestled at least once (beat him in 2015 Worlds when Olinyk wrestled for Ukraine). Bottom half is loaded- eight ranked guys. I don't think it matters though, because Sadulaev is destined for this rematch with Snyder. I picked Sadulaev last year... and I'mma do it again. He's so good I have no idea how he lost last year. I apologize to America, USA wrestling, and my family.

Predictions: Gold- Sadulaev, Silver- Snyder, Bronzes- Olinyk, Alborov

Thanks much. I know many people don't follow international wrestling outside of this weekend, and it can be lots to process. I try to make it as easy as possible to kind of know which guys are good, who is entertaining and what to watch. I hope everyone can find a couple foreign guys this weekend that they like- that's my favorite part of Worlds.
