Manfred will institute pace of play changes, players are real mad about it

20 second pitch clock, and two mound visits per pitcher per inning (or 6 visits total per game) are coming. I think it's great, but this pretty much guarantees a strike in 2021 when the CBA expires because players feel like they're getting screwed

Next step is to reel in replay reviews (this should happen in every sport) to speed up the game. Would also be nice if umpires enforced the rules already in existence

The frequency of pitcher/catcher chats got to be ridiculous, and a few pitchers seem to almost deliberately take as much time as they can just to annoy the batters. Like you said, the players aren’t going to like the rule but they pushed their liberties to the limit.

Batters also being affected:

“In addition, there will be a 30-second between-batters timer implemented starting opening day. Each hitter will receive one warning per game. Part of the rejected proposal includes expanding that timer to 35 seconds.”

So are we going to see pitch clocks in the stadium and on tv?

Is there a time limit the batter has to be set for a pitch? No more 20 second revelcroing the batting gloves and holding a timeout while erasing the batters box with your foot?

Nevermind, just read it....5 seconds. It’s a shame it’s come to this.

This is still too much. But a good start at least.

The players will adjust over time, but it should be interesting getting there. There will be some instances where players will intentionally break this rule to see just how far they can push the umpires.

The other thing to consider is there is some degree of gamesmanship in baseball that this will eliminate. When a pitcher or a hitter is in a groove, a common strategy is to make the pitcher wait, or the hitter wait and "throw them off". The whole signal system between pitcher/ catcher and infielders will be more critical.

They could actually call this the Red Sox/ Yankee rule. When those two get together, it seems like an easy 4+ hour game.

Seems like they would have to have a clock behind home plate for the pitcher and one in the outfield for the ump and batter

Anybody know what they do in AAA and AA?

It’s sad this will only shave 10 mins off a game.

I think it will it end up saving more. Read somewhere that 716 out of ~755 pitchers that pitched in the majors last two years averaged over 20 seconds per pitch. It's up to MLB to actually enforce it. Give the ump a buzzer or something that goes off after the 20 seconds are up so he doesn't have to focus on the pitch clock. If the ball's not in play immediately then award the ball/strike

I think a large number of players will be in favor of this rule change. Some of the pitchers and likely all of the catchers will whine about it though

There is a small clock in left center field in Toledo where the Mud Hens play. Also a clock behind the plate.

Is there a limit on the number of times a pitcher can step off the rubber?
