Post meet results here from week two of the 2019 Track & Field season (March 25-March 30). Who looks good? Who is experimenting to get ready for the meets that really count?

Elder wins Skyline Open

The Panthers scored 161 points to beat their GCLS rivals: La Salle (129), St. Xavier (81), and Moeller (71) at the Panther Athletic Comples (PAC) along with some other teams mainly from Northern Kentucky.

The wrinkle at this meet was that it appears Elder went with the college scoring in that you can enter and score with as many athletes as there are places with point scoring. Check out the discus where Elder scored 25 points (1, 2, 5, 6) with four entrants. https://timerhub.com/getHytResults.p...190327F028.htm. Anyone else ever been to a high school meet where this scoring was done

A few meets held at LaSalle come to mind...their JV Invite and the Senior Send-Off Varsity Meet.

Carrollton narrowly defeated Green 103-100 for the girls title at the annual Fairless Falcon Invitational. 14 girls teams competed. Individually, 3 defending state champions competed: Ke'Aijhan Strong of Tuslaw (DII 400), Zoe Moser of Malvern (DIII 200), and Alivia Bentley of Carrollton (DI girls shot put).

Akron Hoban defeated 2-time defending DIII state team champion East Canton 101-95 in a field of 13 teams. Many participating teams were likely missing athletes due to spring break (the local public schools all take it during the last week of March/end of the 3rd grading period).

Salem's boys and girls repeated as champions of the Cope Invite at Salem. Three of the better boys distance runners in the area squared off in the 800. Mauro from Howland and Double from Salem both ran under the 25 year old record of 1:58.7. Mauro won in 1:57.79 with Double right behind at 1:58.25. Copploe of Canfield faded to 2:05. Not bad in less than ideal conditions. Christopher from Salem ran away from the field in the 1600, recording a time of 4:27.86, missing the meet record by 1.5 seconds. Caitlyn Marx of Salem continued her dominance of the discus in the area with a winning throw of 137-3. Perry of Crestview threw 55-05 to win the shot. He is the defending Div III state champ. Salem boys scored 108 with Austintown Fitch runners up with 101. Salem's girls finished with 138; Fitch had 124.5.

A recap of the Bill Dodd Invite at Byers Field

Team winners
Girls Glen Oak over Solon. Glen Oak showed a lot of depth in the relays and field events...

Boy’s Solon over Brecksville. Solon was strong in the field and sprints.

The weather was cold and at times wet and windy. The cross wind helped the dashes but was a hinderance to the distance races and jumps.

Outstanding performances Boys

Discus Meet Record throw by Solon’s Evan Johnson 172-06. He beat Tanner Watson of Brecksville who threw 168-10 Tanner came back to throw a MR 53-03 in the Shot

Long jump in a back and forth battle which was won by Gilmour’s State Long Jump champ CJ Charleston in 22-08-.25 Brush’s Andre Franks was also under the old record with a 22-07.00. The other Meet Record was Brecksville’s 8:35 in the 4x800 relay

Girl’s

Gilmour’s Freshman Karah Henderson 100m Hurdles was Won in a MR 14.97

Multiple State Champ Solon’s Olivia Howell won the 1600 in 5:33 and then ran a MR 2:25 in the 800.

Gilmour standout Katie Engle in a Solo performance ran a Meet Record in the 3200 in 11:46.

As usually Solon showed a lot of talent and depth across on both the boys and girls teams. I was really impressed with Brecksville’s boys and Glen Oaks girl’s. They have very good squads built to score very well in most spring invites.
