Pearland stuns Trinity

Pearland withstands furious Trinty rally to win 28-24. With 6 seconds left the potential winning throw barely went off the finger tips of Trinity star Brandon Carter as he fell into the endzone. Crowd was over 43,000. Great ball game. In the Div2 5A final Cibolo Steele( San Antonio) led by top RB Malcolm Brown mounted a late 4th quarter drive to beat Denton Guyer 24-21.

Good Team

Pearland played a great game. This did not look like much of an upset to me. They were undefeated. Proud that 45 thousand showed up even though the game was televised. Texas HS football is unmatched when it comes to fan support. By a long country mile.

Yeah Pearland got virtually no respect going in. The fact is if a team can go undefeated in the Houston region and beat a very good and previously undefeated Katy team you have to figure they're very very good. Trinity's pass defense has looked a lttle suspect to me all season and the Pearland gameplan certainly exploited it. If a team is well balanced offensively it's going to always be a tough matchup and Pearland was very diverse offensively. Both the 5A chanpionships were very well played and entertaining.

As it turned out, that Pearland trick play was the difference in the game. Congrats to them and to Steele. Both titles are well deserved.

The "Dead Man" trick play by Pearland was flawlessly executed. Trey Anderson put a nice touch on the ball. Of course, thats kind of easy to do with no pass rush. Congrats Pearland.
