They beat them in the playoffs, lost bullpen arms and did nothing.

You take L's all day, and still trot the same crap out there under your username. You did nothing, too. Go get a new shtick.

Trading deadline is a ways out.

How did we know!?

I hope Kipnis breaks out soon. Struggling both at the plate and in the field it seems. Lindor with two solo dingers in the lead-off position. No hits strung together to produce runs.

Just observations, no suggestions as I am not qualified.

Brian, you really don't know a freaking thing about baseball. Answer me this: What was the Indians' record vs. winning teams in 2017? And what was their overall record? How about their record vs. winning teams in 2016? You remember 2016, don't you? It was the year that the bad, poorly-managed, overrated Indians reached Game 7 of the World Series.

You don't even like baseball, and you sure don't like the Indians. You almost never watch baseball, and you never do until NBA season is over. You never played baseball, so you don't know the nuances of the games; you still whine because Miller can't throw two innings of relief every night. If you'd actually played the game, you'd know why he can't do that.

Indians are 18-18. Not good. But the Tribe was 30-30 last year and went on to win 102 games. The lineup, while still not uniformly-hot, is getting better every week. Indians are now in the middle of the pack in the AL in runs scored; they're second in the league in homers. Encarnacion is still not hot but he will be. And a viable alternative to Kipnis waits in Columbus: Yandy Diaz. Remember, Yandy was in the lineup nearly every game during last year's 22-game winning streak.

Indians still have a couple of gaping holes in the pen. They've trotted out just about every member of the Clippers' pen in the last two weeks. Right now, they're throwing merde at the wall, and hoping some of it sticks. Indians are looking first in the organization to fix the pen. If/when that proves inadequate, they'll look to deal. Antonetti told Paul Hoynes that it's too early to make a trade. I'm sure it is. But don't be shocked if something happens next month. The Tribe should have signed a reliever in the off-season, but they won't let this season slip away without doing something. Especially since Miller and Allen are both free agents at the end of the campaign.

Much has been made of missing Shaw, or whether he was worth $27million for 3 years, but I sure miss Mickey. I think the whole pitching staff does.

And btw, if anyone thinks Carl Willis is going to help Salazar get it together when Callaway could not, they are dreaming. There is a reason we let him go, and it's the same reason he was available again when Mickey Callaway got the Mets' skipper job.

Willis is actually a pretty highly-regarded pitching coach. He left Cleveland not because he was fired, but because Eric Wedge was fired. Willis followed Wedge to Seattle, then went to Boston, where he had close ties to former Indians' staffer John Farrell. I don't know if Willis is as good a coach as Callaway was. However, he has coached four Cy Young winners: C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee in Cleveland; Felix Hernandez in Seattle and Rick Porcello in Boston. I don't think it's Willis that's the problem with the Indians' relievers. I just think they need to go out and find some better arms.

Bring back Plunk and Assenmacher!! So what if they're in their 50s? They can't be any worse than what we've got.

Last night's loss was the low point of the season. Tribe lost to what was basically the Tigers' AAA team. The few decent regulars Detroit has are all on the DL. Why does McAllister still have a job in the big leagues? Oh, that's right. Because some of the Tribe's other relievers are even worse.

Jason Kipnis is now batting below .170. The time to pull the plug on his Cleveland career is drawing near. He isn't helping the team at bat or in the field. And I really hate to admit that, because Kip has always been a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, his career has hit the wall. Brandon Guyer is batting even lower than Kipnis. Guyer hasn't been the same player since hurting his wrist last year. It's time to look around for other options. Even Abraham Almonte would have been better than Guyer and it pains me to say that, because Almonte is a stiff.

Josh Tomlin may be pitching for his big league life tonight. Certainly, he can't have many chances left. Especially not after Adam Plutko impressed in his recent start, and young Shane Bieber dazzles in Columbus after dazzling in Akron. He's putting up Greg Maddux-like numbers in the minors.

To take Ramirez out of the mix, I believe, diminishes that. Kipnis just isn't in Ramirez' league as with the glove or turning two. Guess we'll have to see how this plays out.
And he can't hit a lick, not playing out very well.

Willis is a networked good ol' boy. Those guys all got Cy Youngs on their own merits imo. It's the mental difference in the McAllister, Goody, and Otero types where Willis falls short of Callaway. Cody Allen, unfortunately, is a guy that can only come in in the 9th with a 1 or 2 run lead.

We need at least one bull pen guy to get it together and step up by the time Miller returns. A healthy Andrew Miller changes most everything.
