Best Player or performance at the Rubber Bowl!!

With the Rubber Bowl being torn down this week. Who was the best player or performance you witnessed there.

For me players:

Ricky Powers
Chris Beanie Wells
Antonio Pittman.

Performances

Saw Beanie run for 4 touchdowns and over 300 yards against my Griffs (Griffs won 42 to 28)

Arguably the best backfield Massillon ever had. Those two guys were incredible.

Not a player or performance but a game. I was in 7th grade, and it was the Ohio State Championship game between St. Ed and Moeller. Moeller wins 14-12, St. Ed has the ball inside the Moeller 20 with less than 1:00 minute to play. St. Ed fumbles the snap, Moeller recovers. As that play ended, Brother Ambrose of St. Edward, who is sitting about ten rows in front of me, has a heat attack and passes away in the stands. I never heard a stadium so quiet. So surreal.

You're correct. I was there.

Only time I ever remember Massillon playing St. Francis was in the regular season at PBTS during that same time period.

Do you remember the 3rd and 2 on the 22yd line and Falando goes 78 yds for A score and breaks the game wide open.

The fullback trap ! St Johnís talked all week they had to stop the trap and the counter with McGuire and those plays destroyed them in the 2nd half.

Massillon had a linebacker that year named Eric Wright # 45. He was a man amongst boys.

Let's go back to the 50s. There's A couple backs that I can think of(Akron Central's Don Clark and Kirby Smith from Akron East) that had to have put up some big numbers at the Bowl.

One that always stuck with me was Anthony Gonzalez almost single-handily bringing Ignatius back from the dead against Massillon. They trailed something like 24-6, then he scored twice on 40-35 yard plays and then a pick-6. A year earlier, Massillon lost via a missed XP in OT against Warren Harding Brutal

That Ignatius game wasn’t at the rubber bowl and the Ig loss and Warren loss were both in 02’. Clearly it really “stuck” with you.

Yeah, you're right. I had that game mixed up with the 2001 game at the Rubber Bowl. 2002 was a brutal year for the Tigers wow

Considering how they lost those games, and their history of falling short during the Zwick years, yes it was brutal. The anger and frustration in Massillon at that time was palpable. It's a miracle Shepas lasted another two seasons.

This coming from someone who didnít even know when or where the games were played. Stick to Central troll.

Yeah, sorry I misremembered when exactly a game took place that was played over 15 years ago

I grew up in Massillon, surrounded by football fans. I know quite well what it was like. But keep on the denial train

Frank Stams

In a SC game, AA division, I saw him put a hit on a ball carrier in the backfield from his outside linebacker position that still has the Rubber Bowl rattling. Kid never saw him coming. I can still hear it.

DI State Championship Game was it 1990? 91?

Warren Harding vs Princeton

Harding had Korey Stringer and Omar Provit.

That was 1st year when Harding merged to form the new School.

I still remember some guys with a bedsheet banner that read ď God Bless the consolidationĒ

For me it was Mogadore first state title in double overtime in 1979.
Second was my brother caught me a football on an extra point at the Browns vs. Minnesota pre season game. Damn that was 54 years ago lol.
