Huber Heights Wayne 41 Trotwood 35 OT

HUGE rivalry game as the Trotwood Rams headed down the road to take on Huber Heights Wayne. Trotwood already had a playoff spot but Wayne was playing for their lives. Even with a win they still needed help and they got some from Thursday night when Lancaster lost but still needed more.

Just like the last few weeks the rain came down as the teams took the field. Wayne's first possession did not start well as Trotwood got a pick. The RAMS used the ground attack as Latimer was eating up the yards but it was Hamilton who took it in from 11 yards as Trotwood took a 7-0 lead.

Wayne though was also able to move it on the ground with Nelson but it was a McKee pass to Harris from 27 yards out that got Wayne on the board and we were all tied up 7-7. The Wayne defense came up strong getting a stop and on Wayne's first play it was Nelson breaking free going 44 yards for a TD, 14-7 Wayne. The Wayne fans had not sat down yet when Latimer broke one and went the distance from 80 yards..... 14-14.

Wayne retook the lead in the 2nd on a long drive ending with a Nelson plunge from a yard out. Wayne up 21-14. Looked like the momentum was back with Wayne but Trotwood made the plays when needed late in the 2nd and Stewart would hook up with with Stephens from 3 yards out.... 21-21.

Wayne looked like they were going in for the go ahead score but a fumble ended that and gave the RAMS the ball back with time on the clock. The RAMS was able to get all the way down to the 1 with a few ticks left. Stewart took the hand off and got met at the goal line. Is he in... no one knows.... but after about a 20 second delay the arms go up and the RAMS take a 28-21 lead to the break.

Trotwood started the 3rd qtr with the ball but the Wayne defense got the stop. Wayne was able to get a drive going and Nelson was score from 2 yards out to tie at 28. Once again the Wayne defense got a stop and forced a 3 and out. The Warriors were able to move the ball but stalled inside the 30 and turned it over on downs. With the defenses stepping it up and the clock moving the game entered the 4th tied at 28.

Trotwood got some big plays and took the lead on a 30 yard pass from Stewart to Anderson. 35-28 Trotwood..... Wayne did not panic and converted over and over again on 3rd downs and even a 4th in the red zone disaster struck as Wayne fumbled it away with just over 3 minutes to go. Wayne got some bad news as Darby won, Fairmont also won but Northmont was leading and that is what they needed to get in if they could come back. Once again the Wayne defense found a way to get a stop. Wayne got the ball back with just over 2 minutes left. Following a first down McKee would keep it and break free going 36 yards to get to the RAMS 11. Following a Nelson run it was McKee who kept it and got the corner and went in from 3 yards out..... Wayne had a penalty on the PAT that backed them up. With the rain coming down harder Hawley was able to get it thru to tie the game at 35. Word came in that Northmont had won so all Wayne needed was to win now to make the playoffs.

With Wayne in prevent Trotwood was able to move the ball into Wayne's territory. Time ran out on the RAMS though and for the 2nd straight week Wayne is going into OT.

Wayne lost the toss and had to go on offense first. Wayne ran a reverse to Fancher who got the corner and wen the distance to put Wayne up 41-35. Wayne had trouble with the snap/placement and did not get the PAT off so it was 41-35 with the RAMS taking over. Trotwood was able to get 3 and 2 yards on runs and faced a 3rd and 5. An incomplete pass set up a 4th and 5, penalty now makes it 4th and 10. The snap was mishandled but picked up by the QB who was forced to make something happen and as he lateraled it a hit forced the ball out. Game over, Wayne survives.... 41-35!!!!

Wayne will travel to take on the #1 seed Hilliard Davidson on Friday.....

Game Stats:

Total Yards: Wayne 493 Trotwood 470
Passing: Wayne 182 Trotwood 137

Best of luck to Trotwood in the playoffs!

With Springfield losing Wayne also gets a share for the GWOC TITLE!!!!!!

look, I do not believe in co-champions.... Springfield beat Wayne in OT so I consider them the league champion bit it is what it is......

Go Wayne!

I thought the Wayne defense played a great second half, probably only rivaled by the D in the second half of the Northmont game. If the D can play like that and the offense continue to do their part, Wayne just might have chance to pull off the upset at Davidson. Probably not a matchup that Davidson was hoping for as the #1 seed. Should be an interesting game...
