VERY helpful, thanks! A miracle in itself to keep kids that close together on a hike and that they all landed in the same dry spot.

So going in, they had to crawl through a pretty narrow spot? Diving a hole like that, we had to remove the tank, pass it through first, then put it back on. That's a lot for a kid with no experience. If the hole is longer than a couple feet,.... the hoses won't reach.

That Pataya Beach looks like a high spot that could survive the rains and it's the easiest part of a dive. I'd like to get them at least that far, so they'd be positioned for a dig.

A former Thai Navy diver helping with the rescue operation has died, running out of oxygen after bringing supplies to the trapped team, Thai officials say: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/04/w....co/JGcCS57FhR

One rescurer lost. Ran out of O2, while placing canisters along the route. Not sure I follow, what happened though.

The fact that a professional died in there is a pretty strong indicator that teaching those kids to dive and getting them out is pretty unrealistic.

I saw an article where a reporter asked the parent if they blamed the coach, and he said no. The parent noted the coach gave all of his food and water to the boys while they were waiting to be rescued. It was also noted that, while having the boys swim out of the cave comes with a lot of risks and would be extremely dangerous, one positive is that the boys are very familiar with the cave and have been there many times before.

I was curious about that, first I've seen that noted.
1. With that considered, I'd imagine they were well aware cave floods during rainy season. Was this a case of unexpected rain? Or just dumb risk despite knowledge of risks?

I just heard a US Navy scuba diver talk a little about the current situation, he indicated it is not impossible but not an easy job either. Time is of the essence as one of the toughest conditions is a strong current when flood waters rush into the system and they are swimming against it. Also there are a couple passages that are too tight to have the tank attached to the kids so they have to take them off and push them ahead of themselves to get through these areas; that is not an easy thing to do even for the most experienced divers. Also while they have lights for the darkness the bigger visibility issue is the cloudiness of the water from the sediment floating around, he equated it to driving in the mountains in a very thick fog.

Considering all that, I might prefer to stay in the caves for three months and walk out later.

That might end up being what they do and unless there is a pending hazard like being completely flooded out, a medical emergency, or loss of air (heard they were pumping air into the cave because with all the added rescuers there now oxygen levels were below normal) I would probably opt to stay there. They are also looking for air shafts behind them that could be opened up to access them that way too.

I can't believe that they are pizzing around, they should have already started to
drill an access hole for air ventilation and the possibility of an exit shaft;
ALA Baby Jessica (McClure). When they a talking about months to get them out.

Well, they started moving the kids today. Read it will take 11 hrs and two divers per kid; the whole operation could take a few days depending on weather.

Thai officials being so tight lipped that there's all kinds of conflicting info and conjecture out there. Some sources are saying 6 out while others are saying 4; some say the strongest coming out first while others say the weakest'; some sources say it's shutting down for the night while others say it is ongoing...

I wouldn't think that they would shut down for the night, after all the cave is dark so what
ever it's like on the surface doesn't matter.
