If you are a Cincy fan born in 1991 you have seen two TC winners before a Reds or Bengals playoff series win

If you read my post after the Preakness I said it wasnt as close as appeared.

Watching the replay over again. Did you notice Bafferts other horse, Restoring Hope, at the start veered right and took out speed horse Noble Indy to make it easier for Justify. It was intentional, Geroux leaned hard to the right and caused the interference.

Literally right after the gallop out the cameras got Mike Smith telling Geroux "he is the man" inside fix?

Seemed odd. Are you saying this is like auto racing where the team makes sure their guy wins ? Interesting to here from someone in the field.

Is it any different than not running other top horses in the same paddock?

Completely.

I have no problems with rabbits (horses entered who have little shot but they are entered o ensure a quick pace for a different contender)
I have a problem with veering outside and then back inside trying to cut off other horses. Risk of injury, protection of bettors and other things are top great in thay scenario

We can account for a rabbit who enters and makes a faster pace, we shouldn't have to account for nascar tactics

I just went back and watched it. Interesting first 1/4 mile for Restoring Hope. The jockey looks over his shoulder at one point then pulls him had inside up against another horse.

No way this results in anything that impacts the race results.

Also, regardless of what happened, Justify wins that race even if Noble Indy had clear sailing.

Agreed. If it changed anything it maybe changed the order of finish underneath Justify, but i doubt it

It's such a long race I don't think it affected anything in the long run. Yeah the optics were not good but there was plenty of time if others had a chance to make a move.

So what next for Justify? I thought I heard he was going to race this year so now the Travers becomes a big summer race with the Breeders Cup at Churchill the final chapter before life as a stud.

Connections have been tight lipped as to their racing plan.

Later summer races could be Haskell, Travers Penn derby and the BC.

Doubt he races in all of them, maybe they pick 2 races? Not sure what Baffert would want to to do with pointing him to the BC. He may only give him one prep before that race, 2 at most imo.

Coolmore just spent 75 million, they will probably be pretty cautious with him

For comparisons sake they put AP in the Haskell, Travers and BC. Be interesting to see how he comes back after a layoff.

Do they keep him out west and run in the Pacific Classic? Lot of options.

Baffert has won the Haskell 8 times and the last two Travers Stakes. He may go for those two races

Keep in mind Baffert also has West Coast to properly manage as well. He may run 1-2 in the Classic

They may even take a stab at the Pegasus if he keeps winning and stays sound

For personal reasons I hope he races the Travers but I could see Baffert trying to give the west coast some love. I would hope they give at least three races a shot so the business gets some more pub just before we enter the unknown world of legal sports betting throughout the US.

I think he sends him east. The Pacific Classic is for 3 y/o and up, meaning he would face older. That might be where he puts West Coast. I would imagine he elects to run against 3 y/o for as long as he can

Edit:
Post meant to say east.

I guess if there's no rules against the way Restoring Hope was ran then I'm not going to get too upset with it. I understand your point Arrogate but I also understand what was at stake. Knowing now that there wasn't any crashes or injuries, it appears to be the smart play. The connections are being rewarded handsomely for Justify's victory.

I agree Baffert brings him back east. I think Travers may appeal to him based off it being the one that got away with American Pharoah. My guess it'd again sell out again raise the stakes to around the $1.6M range like they did a couple years ago. All three tracks are definitely going to try and recruit them in.

It appears Justify's racing career may be over as he's been pulled from training for an ankle injury

He has had filling in his ankle in the past. If he is having problems with no breezes (timed workouts at race speed) it is likely they wont risk running him again. However he is insured for an enormous amount so maybe they try to win the Travers/Pacific/Penn Derby and/or the Classic. He isnt running in the Haskell and is only being walked. They say he will be evaluated in two weeks to see if it goes down. I think it is likely he is headed to the shed, bc it apparently comes and goes. Shame, it would have been cool to see him run again. I was hoping he would run in the Classic and face older because I think it would have been a good opportunity to bet against.
