Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest 2018: Joey Chestnut Breaks Record in Victory

Quote:
Joey "Jaws" Chestnut devoured a record-breaking 74 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes Wednesday at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, to win the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for the 11th time in the past 12 years and the third year in a row.

Chestnut continued the Independence Day tradition by beating second-place finisher Carmen Cincotti by 11 hot dogs to retain the mustard-yellow belt.

By eating 74 hot dogs, Chestnut broke his own Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest record of 72 as well as the overall record of 73.5 that he set in a 2016 qualifier.

I'm doing good if I can get 3 dogs down.

Usually with mustard, relish, & onions...

Chips or 'tater salad on the side...

Cold drink (Iced tea or root beer sometimes a cola) preferred
fished from a deep ice filled chest.

I had the Costco $1.50 1/4 pound dog and Pepsi today. For me it's onions and mustard or relish and ketchup.

I do like Chicago-style, but that is harder to find.

Two is pretty much my limit. Always mustard and ketchup. Onions and relish a plus. Chili okay. Can't remember the last time I had a kraut dog. Hmmm...

Always potato salad, preferably with mustard. Macaroni salad welcome as well.

Root beer or ginger ale are my soft drinks of choice though I rarely drink anything other than water.

74 hot dogs on 7/4 = 1776 calories (24 each) = Patriotism!

He should be good to go in a day or so...

Used to get (.50 each) 2 coneys and a Vernors ginger ale at the Arcade Market
in downtown Canto. Total bill 1.62 (tax)

The Coney sauce was awesome (not Chile /no beans)

Of course that was in the 1970's

The Arcade Market was like an open warehouse with several separate vendor areas,
There was a fresh sea food stand, a nut vendor (he would make nut butter
from any nuts you selected ), Centered on the North end was a wrap around lunch
Counter. Several ‘shops’, Italian specialty imported groceries, locally made chocolates,
Fresh fruit stand, there was even a small popcorn wagon.

I love all the controversy over the counting. Well actually I'm not enjoying it now that I originally won big with the under only to lose the recount. I'm somewhat surprised these guys aren't sponsored by any hotdog companies (it may actually be against the rules). Can you imagine the marketing value for a company like Skyline if Joey Chestnut had a few plates full of coneys and just stopped after the first one, put on a bib and said he needed to slow done to enjoy these? (If this actually happens the only thing I want out of it is Skyline for life).

Chestnut holds the world record of eating 141 hard-boiled eggs in 8 minutes at the Radcliff Fall Festival in Radcliff, KY on October 5, 2013, shattering the previous record of 50 held by Lucas Jackson.
