I believe they did press from mid 2nd Q on, Lowellvilleís veterans were able to handle it pretty well. Rockets coach deserves a lot of credit, he had a great gameplan: Double Rasile and protect the paint at all cost, leaving pretty much the 4 other guys wide open on the perimeter and make them beat you shooting it. I thought he also called a great timeout early 3rd Q when McDonald made a bit of a push and got some tempo to the game.

I don’t agree with that. They pressed at some points but most of the time they were in half court trap.

I have wondered that all season long. McDonald has no inside-outside game. Why not post up Portolese or flash him to the foul line? In my opinion, that would open things up for Rasile a lot more. McDonaldís offense was basically playing with the ball around the perimeter and having Rasile try to create his own shots while face guarded and double teamed. McDonald also missed an opportunity with about a minute and a half before the half. Lowellville had 6 team fouls. I believe they were down by 9. Instead of driving to the hoop and trying to get to the line, they take a long 3 and miss.

You make that sound like a bad thing. Congrats to the Ville. I hope the young man didn't miss his flight.

McDonald next year? More of the same or are there some young guys with potential that can score and take pressure off Rasile?

Well they will have 3 starters back in Rasile (SR), Portolease (JR), and Tucker(SR).
My guess is the other 2 will be Carkido (JR) and Joy(JR). Carkido saw some playing time this year, he has some height and can shoot. Joy is quick and hustles, im assuming he will take over Cellis role this year and is probably a little better of a shooter. Off the bench I would assume we would see Hawk (SO). i cant imagine anyone else getting much run at it.

I think that the best shot is Porto establishing an inside game, he is big enough were he should be able to post up. Which will open some shots for Carkido, if he can knock them down that should draw some attention off of Rasile. Joy and Tucker will be slashers and take the ball to the hoop.

Agree mostly. Portolese I think has the best shot to develop into a solid #2 guy, he showed flashes this year only as a soph including being the best player on the floor in the Bristol game. Iíd say off JV the blonde hair kid looked pretty good (#12 I think) and is only a freshman, with some growth I think heíll find himself on varsity. In all they should be better, probably competing with Springfield for #2 in the league, Waterloo returns everyone and will be overwhelming favorites next year

Springfield wins the district 58-48. Lowellville had a 40-25 lead late in the 3rd and absolutely collapsed

Heard they kept in Hvasdak with four fouls, then he picked up his fifth and a T.

Thoughts on that one?

That was the turning point in the game, Springfield trapped and forced a ton of turnovers to chop the lead down really quick. Iíd imagine if he could do it again, rockets coach probably sits him awhile, but he probably had faith in his guy to stay out of trouble so tough to say.

Conventional wisdom says that you sit the guy when his fouls equal the quarter. But, I guess there's a reason he was in the district finals and I'm sitting here second guessing him.

A great season by the Rockets and Springfield continues their season.

I mentioned early in the season that Springfield was the team to beat in Struthers.

At whatever point he would have left the game it was over. The Tigers smelled blood and went after the rocket players left in the game and they couldn't handle the pressure. Crowd was great and the student sections from both schools should be commended. Good luck to the Tigers in Canton next week.

Yeah I think conventional wisdom became that because itís usually the best play. That said I do see his logic, Lowellville was on such a big run (18-0) at the time that he probably wanted to keep it rolling.

Weíll see if Springfield has anything for whoever theyíre matched up with at Canton, hope they can make some noise there

I guess I just didnít pay attention, but Springfield only starts 1 senior and starts the younger brungard whos only a freshman. Granted the senior is their best player. MVAC should have some good teams at the top again with Waterloo returning all 5 and Springfield 4/5 starters. On the flip Lowellville loses all 5 starters and likely suffers the fate WR did this year

Barring transfers in, transfers out, move-ins, or move-outs, Springfield returns 4 starters, Waterloo returns 5, McDonald returns 4, and Sebring returns four. I also think MR returns a lot.

Lowellville loses everyone and WR returns a few. JM will be JM.

On any given night, any of the top five teams could beat each other.

While I didn't see last nights game, I have watched 14 play before and he is frequently in foul trouble and hand checks all game. He probably got just got caught and they called it.

Didnít have a good view of the last one, but the 4 prior were all good calls. In fact I thought last night was one of the better officiated games Iíve been to this year.

Can the Tigers handle the full court mayhem they are about to see? If so I like their chances.

Springfield comes up just short 46-43 from a trip to Columbus, had a 3 ball at the buzzer just barely off. Tough loss but great season for the Tigers and quite the run after being down going into the 4th Quarter all the way back in the sectional final.

Wraps up the MVAC season, which was a great one with 5 making districts and Springfield’s run to the elite 8. Lots of players returning next year as well for top contenders. But now the countdown is on to the gridiron

The only thing I’ve seen on wfmj were articles from 2011 when he stepped down for a year, perhaps that’s what nu saw. No other source has reported anything.
