Buffalo Bills Fire Head Coach Rex Ryan After Two Seasons

Quote:
Rex Ryan needed just one more win against the faltering Jets no less to become the first Buffalo head coach in 16 years to post back-to-back .500 seasons.

As it turns out, he will not be afforded that opportunity on Sunday, when the N.F.L. concludes its regular season. In a move that was surprising more for its timing than its outcome, Ryan was fired on Tuesday and replaced by his offensive coordinator, Anthony Lynn, on an interim basis.

I am not saying he is a good coach--only professionals can judge that. However the Bills franchise is a mess. You can't lay the blame on the coach forever.

The Bills have had 7 coaches since 1997. Pro sports has become a "win now" proposition. There is no patience anymore and alot of it has to do with impatient owners and fan bases. Sports talk shows lift up crazy, unrealistic fan bases and turn franchises upside down over and over.

Ryan may not be great, but ask yourself, can the Bills do any better?

Bring in he next victim in the coaching nightmare. Maybe if they fire and hire enough coaches without actually improving the players, they can get to the Browns level of 1-15. Seems to have worked wonderfully for them.
Team loses. Fire coach. Rinse and repeat.

Ryan took over the 3rd ranked defense from in the NFL and "improved" then to the 19th ranked defense in both 15' &16'. His defensive personnel changes were a disaster.

Lets not forget this brilliant Ryan moment -

Quote:
Bills defense abysmal in 37-31 loss to Jets:

A report circulated Friday afternoon that Ryan was pressured by the front office to fire Roman.

"This is my move, without question," Ryan said.

Roman was replaced by assistant head coach/running backs Anthony Lynn. Ryan said he wants to see the offensive playmakers more involved and expects to see quarterback Tyrod Taylor's abilities showcased.

And now Lynn closes out the year. Perfect Rex Ryan finish This a-hole is going to be on TV now!

Long time Bills fan here and Termit2 is right that the reason Ryan lost his job was the deterioration of the defense. He hired his brother this off season as the defensive coordinator and the defense continued to decline. Look at the Bills season to date and if not for multiple defensive collapses they would be right in the mix as a playoff contender with 10 or 11 wins.

I also agree with other posters that changing coaches like underwear is bad and dooms the Bills to mediocrity (or worse) for the foreseeable future. Still this team has talent and IMO with the right coach is a playoff team.

Rex strikes me at one of those guys who's a good coordinator but a bad head coach. He's Wade Phillips with a more abrasive personality.

Ryan's coached 8 years and hasn't had a winning season the last 6. How much time do you think a guy should be given? And to answer your question, yes definitely.

Well he also thought the Rams fired Fisher too soon. Apparently teams should commit 20 years before assessing a coach's performance.

Yeah, he seems to have a thing for unsuccessful coaches.
