"The Hangout" FAQ
- The threads in this forum are for games that the poster starting the thread intends to do live updates/conversation during the game.
- The thread can be started anytime before the game on the day of the game.
- The title of the thread should be in the form of: CFB "Ohio State vs Michigan State"
- The thread will be moved to it's normal forum sometime after the game is completed. This could be within hours or up to a couple of days.
- Live updated threads should be games involving college or professional sports -or- popular events like the TV award shows.

For my own curiosity, why bother making an entirely new Forum when this was already taking place in the respective forums? There was a poster who had been a member for years that just found the College Football Forum over the weekend. I doubt this drives any traffic over to those forums now.

It depends on what you consider "already taking place"?
This is an Ohio forum, it should be buzzing with activity about Ohio State, Bengals, Browns, Cavs, Reds, and Indians games. With the wide followings of Michigan and the Steelers, they should have alot of activity too outside of one generic thread for each team.
I was on a Rams site a couple weeks ago where they had one thread for every game and plenty of activity for other events. Figured this site had WAY more Buckeyes fans, Browns fans, and Bengals fans than their site had Rams fans but the activity in that thread on that site was amazing. Over 1000 posts during a game.
One central live update section on the site with proper notice should encourage more people to post about these games and also know where to look when they are wanting to post about a game. I know alot of people like to post on Twitter even if their posts are going unread. They have the illusion of getting their voice heard. With 300 people watching the end of the St Xavier game/thread on Friday night, I know that the people are here, just getting them to participate is the hurdle that needs to be overcome.

The discussions do in fact take place for the pro/college teams. They just take place in the teams thread. But I didn't think about the high school level. Appreciate the response.

I would opened one about the Bengals but I really didn't want to give a play by play updates.

I don't understand the play by play thing. I have the ESPN app for that. Happy to give my opinion on a play, game, players and coaches though.

You don't have to do play-by-play. What I like to do in game update threads is post change of possession, scoring plays, potentially big plays and some commentary.
When I'm at the game on my phone, it's much more difficult to do. It's much easier to comment about games when I'm sitting at home...like how poorly the Ohio State's punt return team is playing this season.
Like the Michigan/Ohio State game, I'll bet that 1000s of people that have logged in the last week on this site (or some that never login but were on for HS games this weekend) were probably talking about that game somewhere online. For the health of this site and it's ability to keep going, having 1000s of people posting about that one game would be a huge help. As it was, we had about 25 logged in people that posted about it during the game in either this live update forum, the college football forum, or a couple in the HS football forum.

Just to add to this, we have some very lean times during the Summer. Things are great during the Fall, Winter gets a little weaker, Spring is slowing down, and Summer makes me wonder if I can keep it going.
I'm looking for a bridge that can help throughout the Summer. Gave my best effort in the debate and general forums, but the site needs more than that. So if the Indians, Reds, and Cavs can carry things a little during those slow Summer months, it would alleviate some issues.

Thanks for the offer but I don't see going down that path...
The sites traffic has been strong, just need to get people to post a little more often with greater quality.

Yappi just despises the season long team threads
Sorry but I'm not going to create a new thread for every Reds/Bearcats or NFL game. If traffic was anything like it used to be on the pro and college boards then this idea might work, but the only thing this forum is going to do is divert traffic away from those boards and even fewer people visit them.

It makes complete sense why he despises them though.

It's been years since the college football forum was active. I don't think the NFL forum ever has been. And the MLB forum has no reason for existing. You could sticky the Reds and Indians threads in the general board and probably have more baseball talk.
The only way to drive traffic to the GB forums is to make people in the HS board aware of them. They're not exactly easy to find.

Clearly they're lacking in visibility if there are people who were unaware of them after years on the site

They are clearly very easy to find. Pretty obvious people are either incredibly stupid or disinterested in the gb forums or both.

So they can find the high school forums but can't find the gb forums right below them? Okay.

If people claim they weren't aware of it after a long time on the site, there's a pretty good chance it means there are posters who are focused on HS sports section when they visit the site and do not do much browsing around. Pretty simple

While that is likely true, that doesn't mean the GB and others are difficult to find.
