CHL Hoops 2016-17

Preseason rankings:

1.) Wyoming

2.) Indian Hill
3.) Madeira

4.)Taylor
5.)Reading
6.) Mariemont

7.) Deer Park
8.) Finneytown

Wyoming is almost guarantee to go undefeated in the league. They will be even better than last year where they went 13-1.

I think Mariemont is much too low! They will be in that 2-4 range, and definitely ahead of Taylor.

Agreed. I think it's Madeira/IH/Mariemont in that 2/3/4 range and then a drop to Taylor/Reading...then a big drop to the bottom.

Question for all. I know Bazley is gone but has Finneytown really fallen below Deer Park, or are they about even player wise but the Gap in coaching puts DP in front?

Precisely why I ranked them that way.

Regarding Mariemont, I don't see how they will be in the IH/Madeira range because they lost both Kromer and Crowley and I didn't see much from their JV team and definitely nothing from their freshmen, but I can see them above Reading and Taylor. Those 3 lumped together didn't really have an exact order, that's just the way I'm guessing.

Deer Park got a couple transfers in that I think puts their talent level above Finneytown. I don't necessarily see it as a gap in coaching between the two schools.

Wyoming is certainly the favorite. im not so sure that they will go undefeated in the league in a walk. I know that Indian Hill and Madeira can put up a tough challenge on a given night. Does anyone else see any teams challenging Wyoming? Keep in mind that Wyoming lost early in the tournament last year (first round?) so they can be beat.

Wyoming's issue once again will be depth - they have 4 really good players (Grayson should be the POY in the league + the two Edmonds + the older Prater). The younger Prater will play a lot as freshman. After that it is a mixed bag coming off the bench. Indian Hill will definitely be able to challenge Wyoming and Madeira as well if they can find consistent guard play. After that Wyoming's talent should see them win the other 10 league games.

The sophomore Rogers kid will get solid minutes and contribute adequately, IMO. I don't think it's really an issue in HS not having a lot of depth considering games really aren't long. 1 outstanding player and 3 really good returning players is plenty to have success.

IH may steal one from Wyoming, but no chance Madeira beats Wyoming, barring injuries.

BTW, I hope I'm wrong and Wyoming does not win the league and bows out in the first round of the tourney again.

No way Finneytown finishes below Deer Park this season.

Why do you say that? From what I have seen of scrimmages Neither team is any good and it is a coin flip.

Heard that DP has a good transfer, not sure where he came from but heard he can play. Without Bazley, not sure who Finneytown has left?

What does it matter--talking about 7th and 8th place--pretty much agreed they are the two bottom teams in the CHL.

Freshman guard Mark Wise - came from Aiken. They will get more transfers when DP goes open enrollment. Not sure if it will be enough to put them in the top of the league but they won't be the doormat anymore.

DP will be open enrollment within the next two school years. It's one reason Taylor went back and the sole reason they brought in the basketball coaching staff that they did.

Dont be so sure about open enrollment. The community might have a different opinion. Sometimes people are promised things that are not delivered. I do not think it is a done deal. Should be but not so sure it will go through.

Of the players still on the team at the end of last year they didn't lose anyone but Delshon Watson to graduation, if that's what you mean. But at the rate they've had players walk out on the program, what it will look like in a couple of months is anyone's guess.

The DP administration and athletic department are full-steam ahead on open enrollment. The only thing which could stop them from going open is a community uproar. I've always been impressed with the Deer Park community's support of their athletics even when they don't win very much. They get decent crowds for football/basketball even when they are down.

It appears that Deer Park is much improved. They lost in overtime to a decent St Bernard team last night. Not saying they will contend in the CHL but with better coaching and a couple new players they will be more competitive.

Better players is correct. Not necessarily better coaching.

At least three I believe. Winton Woods, Aiken, and Hughes if I'm not mistaken.

With Deer Park's improvement, they may be the odds on favorite for the CHL cellar

Reading is pretty terrible but it comes down to coaching and discipline between Reading, DP, and Finneytown. Reading will go 4-0 against them.
