Stritch lost 58-51 to Mansfield St. Pete. They have everyone back from last year's 24-4 regional final team. 2nd quarter killed the Cardinals, they were outscored 13-2.

TAAC So far

So far

Toledo Christian 7-0 5-0
Cardinal Stritch 5-2 3-1
MVCDS 5-2 3-1
Gibsonburg 3-5 2-2
Ottawa Hills 3-3 1-2
Danbury 3-4 1-3
Emmanuel C 1-4 1-3
Northwood 0-7 0-4

Toledo Christian which had more experienced team coming into the season got the early jump on both Cardinal Stritch and MVCDS. League favorite OH has struggled and is still withing striking distance coming into the meat of the league schedule. Gibsonburg has proven to be feisty and competitive evidence of their win over OH. CS and MVCDS both has tough losses on the road to very good team Canton Central Catholic and Mansfield St. Peter and losses to TC. I believe one of these two teams will win the league based on talent and youth. They both have more potential down the stretch. TC is solid but not spectacular.

Wildcards are Gibsonburg which host Cardinal Stritch and TC at home can they pull and upset always tough out there. Ottawa Hills can they string a couple of wins together to get back in the race they have yet to play TC or MVCDS.

Gonna get interesting.

Noteworthy games

Toledo Christian vs Ayersville (tough team)
MVCDS vs Delphos Jefferson (D3 bigger physical)
Ottawa Hills vs Pettisville (Currently in 2nd place in BBC)

TC plays a style that is tough for young teams to handle. They value possessions/limit turnovers, make you defend for a long time before a shot goes up and play physical on the ball defense.

Physicaly and skill wise MVCD and Stritch match up well with TC. Right now TC has the advantage on the mental side of the game. If these teams mature that part of their game they could knock them off.

Wow. 49 points for Zeb Jackson in 2 OT win. I have seen a couple teams who can't score 49 in an empty gym.

Might want to pick him up with someone with a little length at half court and run a trap at him.

Will Jackson stay at MVCD?

I know basketball is a small part of the big picture, but what is he getting out of playing in the TAAC when he can put up 25+ ppg as a freshman? He has not even touched 25% of his potential. He is still just a baby....and I mean that in a good way.

When I look going forward it seems like most of the teams in the TAAC will have a drop off next year. Toledo Christian, Ottawa Hills and Gibsonburg are senior dominated. Danbury, Emmanuel Christian and Northwood have a lot of work to do to become competitive.

There may only be a couple competitive games on their schedule next year.

High school basketball is a very small part of the recruiting process anymore. Jackson has had and will continue to get plenty of exposure during AAU. It is not like he is a sleeper. I'm sure most if not all college programs in the region know who he is.

If you are talking about competition, I would expect MVCD and a few other small schools, who are very young, but talented, to upgrade a couple of their non league games for the next few years to better prepare them for a tournament run.

Playing average to below average teams give you a false sense of security. You can get away with things that will not work vs good well rounded teams. Open shots become contested shots or no shot at all, easy layups become challenged by bigger more physical players. Many of the good TAAC teams of the past have a history of playing a style that works in league, but doesn't work vs the big farm boys they see in district final/regional level games. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward.

MVCD vs Stritch.

Big game for two young teams. Defense and rebounding will determine the outcome. I think this game gets played in the mid 50's.

Will Stritch be able to use their depth and size advantage or will MVCD force them to go small with their quickness?

TC vs Ottawa Hills should be good one too.

Taac

Big night in the TAAC.

Cardinal Stritch visits Maumee Valley and Toledo Christian goes to the village of Ottawa Hills.

The top four don't play each other like this until February.

Summary....
The top of the league while talented has been relatively unproven. In out of conference play the top teams are a combined 10-6 with OH holding the best record of 3-1 followed by Cardinal Stritch 2-1 and MVCDS 3-2 and Toledo Christian 2-2. Upon further inspection and looking at the quality of the teams it is clear that Cardinal Stritch and MV has played a tougher schedule. St. Peters has one loss and Canton Central Catholic has 1 loss to perennial state power St. Thomas Aquinas. Hilltop has one loss to Ayersville who beat TC at TC by 10.

If scheduling is an indicator CS and MV may not win league but may be prepared to make a nice tournament run.

Tonight's games will be a good indicator of who's further along and who's ready to take charge. We will see.

Would be nice if BCSN covered those two games. Really excited to see the outcome of MVCD and Stritch.

This never works out for me so I should stop typing......but Mans. St. Pete beat St. Thomas Aquinas by 18. Stritch was in a 2 point game with under a minute with St. Pete before losing by 7.

I'm sure I could come up with a way for Put-In-Bay to beat Golden State if I research it long enough.

TC still the team to beat after winning at OH.

Stritch a game back after winning by 19 @ MVCD.

Stritch was up 8-10 most of the game, but MVCD cut it to 1 late in the 3rd. Jackson fouled out with 30 sec to go in the 3rd. Holifield hounded him all night. Most young guys don't like to defend but that may be the best part of Holifield's game. He had a very impressive night have to think he scored in the 20's. Jackson had around 10.

Stritch didn't turn the ball over much and controlled the paint. These teams are more even then the final score.

Both teams in double bonus both halfs.

Probably the worst officiated game I have seen all year, the refs would not let the players play.

Stritch is solid, I'd say coaching played a large part in their victory. Round two will be interesting when MV get Kynard back.

MVCD vs OH and Stritch vs Gibsonburg should be competitive games this week.

TC vs Bowsher is coming up. Interesting game of styles.

I would like to catch a Stritch game. Any concerns about getting tickets/sell outs? I know the gym is small.

No concern about a Stritch home sellout other than maybe the next Maumee Valley game. They had to turn people away at Maumee Valley, but it is a tiny gym (4 rows of bleachers on both sides maybe 1/2 the capacity of Stritch) and there were a lot of players from other schools watching.

You will need to show an ID at the door.

OH with a big win over MVCD. There are a lot of teams who can play spoiler, but TC has to be feeling very good about their chances. I don't think the league champ will have more than 1 or 2 losses.

Stritch needs to come out strong vs a solid Gibsonburg team. Can't give Kille open looks. Run a bunch of guys at him and keep him off the 3 point line.

Anyone have details from OH v MVCD?

Toledo Christian 8 - 2 6 - 0
Cardinal Stritch 6 - 2 4 - 1
Gibsonburg 4 - 5 3 - 2
Maumee Valley Country Day 7 - 5 3 - 3
Ottawa Hills 5 - 4 2 - 3
Emmanuel Christian 1 - 7 1 - 3
Danbury 3 - 7 1 - 4
Northwood 0 - 10 0 - 4

MV vs OH

The New Look Hawks, looked good early but faltered late but there were moments of explosiveness that will provide some pause for teams going down the stretch.

Caleb Kynard is a basketball savvy player, his addition to the MV lineup provides depth, experience, and stability in the backcourt.

Big kid Sam from Central Catholic is going to pay huge dividends for MV down the stretch.

Game Hawks were fast out the gate and caught OH off guard with length and speed. Johnson and Woodley had several blocks down low and on the perimeter.

Game changing moment 2nd quarter and 4th quarter, Hawks failed to capitalized on size advantage when OH went to bench. Roman got early fouls and fouled out but MV did not capitalize down low.

Sieben and Hoffman were on fire particularly the Hoffman kid finished with 27. I don't think he missed from deep.

OH fought to get the win, but MV has games to gel as a unit with new players in practice and game before home stretch (TC, CS, and OH) those games will determine who'll win the TAAC.

Stritch beat Gibsonburg 72-50. Stritch shot very well from deep, made 10+ threes. Taylor stayed out of foul trouble and was a load in the post.

Toledo Christian 8 - 2 6 - 0
Cardinal Stritch 7 - 2 5 - 1
Maumee Valley Country Day 7 - 5 3 - 3
Gibsonburg 4 - 6 3 - 3
Ottawa Hills 5 - 4 2 - 3
Emmanuel Christian 1 - 7 1 - 3
Danbury 3 - 7 1 - 4
Northwood 0 - 10 0 - 4
