I'd love to have Pelini at UC. Always thought he was a damn good coach who got the shaft at Nebraska. He's not super young like Fleck or Brown and it seems like he'd be able to recruit Ohio pretty well since he's from Youngstown

Surprised Brady Hoke isn't getting any attention either

There's no spots in the G5 conferences to move up unless more expansion happens at the power 5 level to shuffle things around

I really think the best bet for UC if they could get Neal Brown. Has done a dang good job at Troy during his time there and has recruited experience in some football hotbeds. Young guy the kids can relate to.
Fixed that for you. Have you seen their 2017 class? With Texas possibly back on the rise, the desolate wasteland that Briles left the program and Texas talent being more and more open to leaving the state, Baylor is done.

That's because Oregon's defense is non-existent.

From SI's Peter Thamel:

"Expect Cincinnati to look for a coach with an offensive pedigree, as the Bearcats went 13 quarters without scoring a touchdown at one point this season. Among the school’s targets will be Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm, Troy coach Neal Brown and Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield. Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell and co-offensive coordinator Ed Warinner also have deep Ohio ties and could end up on the Bearcats list."

On this list Brohm would be #1 if they could get him but I think he will end up in a power 5 gig. So of the balance Warinner would be the best choice, the Meyer coaching tree is solid and the guy knows Ohio football. I still think they should talk with Charlie Strong but avoid Les Miles as this would feel a lot like Tommy 2.0.

There really aren't any Power 5 gigs to be had, though. Guys like Fleck, Brohm and Brown either go to upper Group of 5, like to UC or Nevada, or wait out another year at their current schools...or take a Power 5 coach-killer job like Purdue and wind up with the shine knocked off their star in three years. Recent history shows the move to an upper Gof5 job is a great stepping stone to a good Power 5 job, which to me is a better way than taking a crappy Power 5 job like Purdue or Kansas and being fired in three years.

I get it. It's a significant pay bump for Brohm, his family and his staff and their families, and these guys are highly competitive and can't conceive they will fail at the new job, but some of these Power 5 jobs simply are graveyards for coaches. The better way in recent years seems to be what Tom Herman, Justin Fuente, Brian Kelly, Butch Jones and others have done...step up to an upper-tier Group of 5 job, do well and move up into a good to great Power 5 job.

Purdue is a stepping stone job if there ever was one in the P5. I mean if people can turn a few winning seasons at programs like Vandy and Duke, the same can happen at Purdue. The university just has to give their hire a long leash.

Going to Purdue is not bad ... look at Hazell, he will end up back with a MAC head coaching job (or a coordinator for a P5 team), and got a big payday for his grief. Not all bad.

Purdue wants to bring back the Drew Brees era Brohm's the right man for that position. If he can bring in a DCord with any talent at all he'll be fine at Purdue (mid level with bowl appearances and the occasional big win). He'll get QBs and skilled position guys based on his offense. Not sure how he'll coach in the Big Ten but whenever WKU played a P5 team and he had a chance to win the game with his offense he left it in their hands and didn't play for the tie or field position. Easy to do as an underdog but will he do the same thing at Purdue and if it fails what will the fans do?

the objective is to go to a place and actually win, not get fired after three or four years and collect a paycheck.

Purdue isn't in the position to fire Brohm after 3-4 years unless the team shows absolutely no improvement. I went to a game there a year or two ago as part of an annual guy's trip tailgate weekend and after spending two days in a nicer RV lot not far from the stadium, it's not even necessarily the boosters wishes to win. They want to see exciting football and compete. If nothing else Brohm will create fun football to watch even if they end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard early. Purdue was by far a better option than UC and almost laughable some of you don't see it.

2016 Coaching Carousel

Taggart to Oregon.
Also been said Fleck not interested in UC.

I think it will be Neal Brown or Kerry Coombs

Fixed that for you.

I'll be done with UC football if they go for Coombs. If you're gonna go OSU at least bring in Fickell as a HC and Coombs as a DC.

They just did it with Hazell and Hope. What makes you think anything will be different this time around? For someone who is trying to move to the upper echelon of coaching, UC is undoubtedly a better job. MSU, ND, Tennessee vs. 3 off years and a one year stint as USF co-OC/OL and likely another off year or two.

It's funny how rattled UC fans are about their G5 status.

What are you talking about? He said he has zero interest in G5, he didn't single out UC. I know OU has copious drug consumption, I'm starting to think it did a number on your brain. How's OU's NC coming in basketball?

That guy wrecked one OSU National Championship chance already.... won't be surprised if he'll make it two in the Clemson game.

As long as they don't play a powerhouse like Kansas.

Last time Texas lost to Kansas Dorothy was still on the Farm.
