Hope they do. They won't get a guy like Fleck, not with the program in shambles so someone like Strong seems like a great fit. Knowing UC though, Strong probably isn't even on their radar.

Strong did well at louisville when they were in a BCS conference. UC was a similar program at that time, but not anymore. IMO we need someone with local ties who has done well at a lower level.

Not saying he couldn't do the job, and God knows he couldnt do any worse! He did recruit well in cincy, but again how would losing that power conference tab affect him?

Could see Urban hiring Strong as DC if Schiano gets hired away.

Though I think Schiano stays at least one more year, and Strong will have another job by then.

By the way, UC should 100% be going after Charlie

I'd like ND to go after Schiano, but like you said, he's only been there a year. My list has dwindled significantly, my realistic first choice is Mike McIntyre at Colorado. After that Fedora, maybe PJ Fleck. Fleck would be a massive, massive gamble and ND is usually the last school to take risks like that.

Les Miles to Purdue?

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2...ue_job_wa.html

Sounds insane to me as well.

Houston isn't going to let Herman go without a fight. It helps to have a billionaire as the Chairman of the UH Board of Regents.

All the reports I'm reading have Jimbo Fisher turning down LSU for the second straight year.

Not a surprise since FSU is the better program now and all time vs LSU despite the media overhyping lsu like crazy during the process

And Jimbo is going to get more money for assistants so it works out great for us!

I also heard LSU will go after Herman if Texas doesn't want him. Larry Fedora from North Carolina is high on their list after Herman

Now the mainstream sites are reporting Herman to LSU is close. Jimbo turned down LSU and Texas is keeping Strong or dragging their feet

Clown-boy Jimbo padding his record in an inferior conference. Nice contract. No sense making what is essentially a lateral move and getting his azz kicked 2-4 times a year before a Bowl game whuppin'.

Jimbo Fisher chose to stay with the superior program. The media tried their very best to act like LSU was the superior job but the numbers just don't back it up.

The garbage a few dumb kids spew on here about easy schedule or conference don't hold water either. Any knowledgeable fan knows FSU built its brand by going anywhere and playing anyone over the years cited. Their schedule was always tough while building the program

In reality LSU ,auburn , Georgia etc have backed out of playing FSU out of conference many times over the years. Also scheduling Alabama next year kind of throws that rhetoric out the window.

Last 40 years numbers of FSU vs LSU :

Overall Record
FSU 386-109-4
LSU 313-164-6

Overall Winning Percentage
FSU .777
LSU .654

NCAA Rank in Winning Percentage
FSU #1
LSU #21

Record vs Ranked Teams
FSU 102-69-1
LSU 84-96-2

Winning Percentage vs Ranked Teams
FSU .600 (NCAA rank #1)
LSU .470 (NCAA rank #15)

Bowl Victories
FSU 25
LSU 15

Conference Championships
FSU 15 (despite not playing in a conference for 16 of those years)
LSU 6

National Championships
FSU 3
LSU 2

National Championship Game and Playoff Appearances
FSU 7
LSU 3

Wins Against the SEC Champions
FSU 8
LSU 2

Win Percentage Against the SEC Champions
FSU .500 (8-8-1)
LSU .077 2-24

Very poor handling of the coaching market for Texas. Same as LSU last year panicking after Jimbo turned them down

This is what you get with 2 dysfunctional programs but remember nothing has been signed yet so as Yogi said it ain't over til it's over.

If Herman is going to LSU he should be able to make them a more competitive program over night but he will have to deliver SEC titles in the 1st couple years or else it will be considered a failure. While Saban is getting up there in age I don't see him leaving in a couple years so that will be a very tall task.

What an exciting second half of football for Herman's Cougars. Definitely looking more like a Big 12 shoot-out, though.

I think today showed how hard it is for teams to play when their coaching situation is in doubt. If you're a Houston player you obviously feel slighted, like you're playing for a staff that doesn't care about you. So what I mess up, you'll be gone tomorrow. Sure these kids are all competitors but you have to go into the day somewhat moping over the future of the program.

I don't even like Charlie Strong and I feel bad for him and his team. I'm not sure how they got through this past week. Talks of a player boycott before they decided to play an emotional game to win him one more year. Watching those guys literally cry because they felt they let their coach down costing him his job was something. Usually there's kind of "we didn't live up to expectations" wink wink its the coaches fault. No these guy's were all out backing him while pleading the school to keep him.

Lol at LSU Jimbo turned them down 2 years in a row and now they've probably learned Herman is going to Texas. This is reality over sec media propaganda. Both jobs are better than LSU

And Herman to Texas. Some seem to think Herman's agent leaked some false info about LSU to get Texas moving. I forget who I was listening to this morning who said that

Florida Atlantic fired their head coach. Thank God!

Luke Fickel is one of the leading candidates!

I want an offensive mind but he's not a bad mid major option if they go defense

Doesn't OSU have a future home/home with Texas coming up? Like 2019-2020 or something? That would be an interesting matchup.

Fau and Ohio state matchup in 2019. If Fickel did go there it could be an interesting offshoot on a blowout game

Humorously, the Oxford (MS) Police had to apologize for Twitter trolling LSU's hiring of Orgeron.

http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/20...d_orgeron.html

It's interesting that LSU's AD basically called out Herman for trying to play them into getting into a bidding war with Texas.

http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/20...candidate.html

Quote:
"This thing was never going to come down to a bidding war. It was something that we knew that Coach 'O' is never going to play games with us. We know where Coach O's heart is, we know where his love is, we know where his passion is.

"When you hire someone, you want to hire someone who really wants the job. Really wants to be here."

Strong probably deserved to get the axe. However, Texas' handling of it was extremely poor, Strong is a class act and deserved better.
