NFL discussion thread 2016/17

So everyone can discuss that hot Week 1 action between the Bills/Ravens without having to look for the specific game thread down at the bottom of the page. What a drag.

Watching parts of the Cowboys/Rams on ESPN and Rams fans seem to be slightly outnumbered by Cowboys fans in the Rams' first ever game back in LA. Is it me or is that really embarrassing for the Rams? Even if it's preseason you can't buy up all the tickets for your team's first game back?

The LA crowd is great, can't believe they got that many to buy tickets.

Also stoked that Sean McDonough is the new voice of MNF. It sucks he'll be off college football now but he's by far the best PxP man ESPN has. So naturally he'd be on their biggest program.

Tirico is very good but I never liked him with Gruden at all which wasn't really Tirico's fault. He'll be Thursday nights now and SNF in a few years anyway

Can't stand Gruden, there is something about his voice that just irritates me. He might be the most informative or worthless announce out there, but can't get past his whiny vocal tone.

It will take some time for the LA fans to back the Rams. People bandwagon fans. They follow teams that win. Most fans in LA are fans of other teams, including the Cowboys.

Am I imagining it, or did I read that the Rams drew almost 90K for the preseason game? From a glance, it looked like a good crowd on TV, not sure how many were Cowboys fans.

I really like Teddy Bridgewater and feel bad for him. Not a Vikings fan, I know they were picked by many to challenge Green Bay this year.

Find it very interesting that the Las Vegas book had the Vikings over/under at 9.5 wins before the injury, and now they have them at 8.0 wins. Do they really think the drop off from Teddy B to their backup (Shaun Hill) is only a game and a half? Kinda feels like they don't think much of Teddy. I know the Vikes are Adrian Petersen first and lots of defense, but I thought they were 10-6 with Teddy and probably 6-10 without. Its a QB league. Betting the under.

Teddy's kind of the guy for some reason, that doesn't get much criticism. And he's been good, but not great. The Vikings won 11 games last year largely due to their defense. Bridgewater only had 14 TD passes last year. That number probably surprises alot of people. I think the Vegas book tells alot. One is that while Bridgewater is good, he's not irreplacable. The game and a half drop tells us he's really a game manger. Just don't screw up. Shaun Hill is largely that kind of QB. I"m not sure I agree that it's a QB league anymore. NFL defenses are so good, you just have to have QB who doesn't give the opponent points. Peyton wasn't the reason the Broncos won last year, he just stayed out of the way. The defense was the difference in Denver last year. Largely the Panthers were a defensive oriented team, and Cam made a few plays a game for them.

Pretty clear head hunting by the Broncos D tonight. Wonder if the league will actually do anything about it

Yeah, 4 obvious helmet to helmet hits on Newton and only one flag; plus no concussion protocol for Newton on the last shot.

The problem with the current concussion protocol is that it takes time to assess someone. If all you're thinking about is safety, Newton should have been ordered off the field and checked out. But, the game is on...it's late and close. Invoke the protocol and it affects the game. Carolina has nothing to b itch about. They wanted him in there. The league, on the other hand, has integrity issues to address. If those neuro's on the sidelines are independent and focused only on player safety, no way he should have stayed out there, EVEN IF he was 100% healthy.

Yup, that's my point. The NFL failed to follow their own protocol. No doubt Newton should have been removed from the game.
