State Football Championship Question

If Cleveland Benedictin wins the D-IV state championship this year, Head Coach Joe Schaefer will have won the state football championship as both a player and a head coach at the same school.

So my qustion is.....Since the inception of the playoff system in 1973, has a person ever won a state football championship as both a player and head coach at the same school?

So how is Benedictine this year? I liked when Elder played them back from '05-'08.

Trotwood's Maurice Douglass almost did it...he played in the championship game as a student (against Benedictine, coincidentally), and won it as Trotwood's head coach...

I LOVE your stadium (the Pit), what a great place to watch HS football. Second, in my opinion, only to Little Giants stadium in Fremont.

Good question. I have no idea if anyone has done it. You can obviously eliminate all schools that have just 1 playoff title.

Ricky Powers came up 1 pt. shy a few years ago with Buchtel as a coach.

I'm sure Bill Franks did it. I'm pretty sure he played on 3 Green Wave state championship teams in the mid-80s and won as their HC also.

I think Al Hodakievic graduated from Benedictine in 72 so he never played on a playoff state championship team for the Bengals.

Really there are very few possibilities of having done it.

Steve Klonne and/or John Rodenberg at Moeller? Chris Kubbs at Marion Pleasant? Scott Pollack at Mogadore?

Rick Finotti won a title as a player at St. Joe's but as a coach at St. Ed's.

Scott Pollock's brother won one as a player in 1979 for Mogadore (Scott was already graduated I believe).

His brother was an assistant coach on both the 1996 state title team as well as the 2002 state title team. So he wasn't a head coach that won both as a player and coach, but did so as an assistant.

RedBlue has a little shameless behaviour in the past
This might be a good discussion if his current team was playing the same caliber teams that they did when he was a player. Let's see if they can actually close the deal in the league first. I personally don't want to hear how they rolled Normandy. Let's see how many college D1 recruits do they have?
