Oakland mayor reaches "agreement" in effort to keep Raiders

Quote:
Oakland mayor announces framework for stadium agreement

The mayor of Oakland announced that the city has reached a framework agreement with the Ronnie Lott group for a new stadium, with the hopes of keeping the Raiders in Oakland.

"It is exciting that we have reached a conceptual framework agreement with the Lott group," said Mayor Libby Schaaf.

The framework agreement does not include the Raiders, nor has Raiders owner Mark Davis agreed to stay in Oakland. The agreement would need to be approved by the Board of Supervisors and the Oakland City Council before the groups could move forward.

Schaaf is scheduled to present the deal to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday in a closed-door session. It would then go to the Oakland City Council on Nov. 29, if it passes...

Kind of torn about this. I'd like to see them stay in Oakland but they make the most sense for Las Vegas... Maybe the Chargers will look at Vegas.

I like it. Vegas Raiders. I think Oakland could also lose the Golden State Warriors

Vegas talk heating up again:

Raiders’ proposed Las Vegas move discussed by NFL owners

Yes, the Raiders may go to Las Vegas without Sheldon Adelson

Steelers owner: Raiders might move to Las Vegas without Adelson investment

I wonder if the Chargers moving to LA hurts the Raiders' chances of moving to Vegas at all. The Chargers are destined to be an enormous failure, the Rams first season was pretty disappointing, so will the NFL want to have a third team move to an unproven city? I highly doubt it

I'm guessing the NFL throws a bunch of money at Mark Davis and forces him to build a stadium in Oakland. Or they just play in the 49ers stadium, which is probably the best and cheapest solution. If all three of these teams fail the NFL isn't going to want to have to deal with moving three teams again, and imo they're still going to want to move the Jaguars

Oakland to Vegas seems like a slam dunk to me, but San Diego is kind between a rock and a hard place given their current city doesn't seem to care a whole lot if they stay and LA seems to struggle supporting one NFL team already.

I don't know why the Chargers don't look outside of SoCal. Portland, Memphis, San Antonio, and OK City seem like pretty decent options.

I don't believe the league has ever voted down a relocation request. When the Browns moved, only two owners voted against it. Ralph Wilson (Bills) and Rooney (Steelers). The idea being no owner wants to hamstring an owner if they're 'losing money' because one day that might be them and they don't want to be told they can't have leverage against their market to squeeze out a sweetheart stadium deal.

And just like the mid-90s moving bonanza led to the rush of luxury-box-laden super stadiums, this new surge of movement is probably going to speed up that 30-year timeline for newer AT&T Stadium/Mercedes-Benz Stadium/LA Stadium monstrosities). Braves and Texas Rangers are both getting new stadiums just after two decades, and it seems the NFL is moving further toward 'big money' fans than the fans buying up nosebleeds in an oversized stadium.

Especially when television rights are paying so much. The NFL television partners pay $5.41 billion a year. DirecTV pays $1.5 billion a year. That's $6.91 billion PER YEAR for the rights to the games. That's not counting stadium revenue (concessions/beer), merchandise, tickets, sponsors, or radio contracts.

Between preseason, regular season, post-season, Super Bowl, and Pro Bowl, there are 333 games played each season. That's $20.75 million PER GAME. The NFL would need to charge $296 per ticket to reach that averaging 70,000 paid tickets per game for every game played.
