Thumbs up From the opening tip, all Lady Comets

Final 69-34.

Solon up 22-4 after 1. 41-13 at the half. 58-25 after 3. then the final 69-34.

Mentor had no answer anywhere. Inside, outside, the boards and trying to press made it worse.

Tip of the hat to #20 Gabby Mitchell. Not for her 2 points. But for her suffocating defense on Maddy Moyer who had 5 points on 2 layups and a free throw. If Mentor goes as Maddy goes, then that was a huge part of the game.

Alexis with 18, Dee 17 and Valencia a solid 18.

Solon looked sharp on both ends of the court and with Coach Kruse constantly shuffling that line up, all the kids share the wealth and experience.

Way to go Lady Comets. stay focused.

In other action, Twinsburg led Mag at the half, 33-19 and ended up losing by being outscored 38-10 in the second half with the final 57-43. Wow !

Solon got off to an 18-0 lead. It looked as if Mentor might never score, while the Comets kept scoring any way they pleased. The final tally could have been worse. The Comets, as dominant teams often do, ratcheted down the intensity in the second half.

On Mentor's behalf, I must add that the Cards played without their starting center. How much of a difference would she have made? I asked one of Solon's JV players that question, and she told me that the girl would have a bit of a difference, but wouldn't have changed the outcome.

I thought every Solon player looked good. Last night's win was a total team effort.

For those who don't remember - Mentor beat Solon twice last year, and the Cards won the GCC title over the Comets. So I'm sure Solon's girls wanted this one badly.

Looked like quite a game. Down throughout the first half and 39-40 after three. Huge 4th quarter with 17 points and holding HH Wayne to 8 for the final of 56-48.

Valencia huge night on the boards with 18 and scored 15 points. Dee also scrappy with 10 rebounds and 15 points. Stover added 13.

Another big one today with Lakota West at 3:30. Get 'er done Lady Comets!

Solon Tops Lakota West 66-54

Down 19-11 after one. At the half, Solon up 36-32. Up 50-45 after three.

Up 4 with 5 minutes to play and then Solon pulls away topping Lakota West 66-54.

Dee with 23 in the first half and finished with 30. She also had 11 rebounds to go with 11 of her points from the free throw line. Lakota as a team had 12 from the charity stripe. What a complete game for this kid. Stover added 13.

Solon now at 11-2 and heads to Euclid Wednesday and back at home Saturday vs Elyria.

Keep rolling Lady Comets!

I'm probably the first one to say this in print (but unlikely the last): If Solon can beat teams like HHWayne and Lakota West convincingly on consecutive days, they can win the state championship.

I'm not claiming that the Comets will win the state title, just noting that they're capable.

Just tossing that out there...

Have the potential.......

Next 5 conference games show Euclid at 4-3; Elyria 0-9; Medina 4-4; Shaker 3-4; Brunswick 2-7.

The Comets then welcome Mag at home who is 8-6 and beat Twinsburg by 14; lost to Wads by 2 and lost to Hoover by 10. That is always a tough group.

Then conference Strongsville 4-4 and at Mentor now 10-3 and 6-1 conference who Solon sent quite a message to last week.

Wrap up with Wadsworth now at 6-5 and 5-2 conference. I like that they have two gritty opponents at the end of the season.

I like what I've seen so far with them locking down on 3rd and 4th quarters. Also racing out to quick big leads don't hurt either. Their charity stripe production is going to be huge down the road. Keep that percentage up there Ladies.

Stay healthy. Stay focused. Love this group of kids and what these Coaches are directing.

What a great weekend for the Lady Comets. They go 2-0 and beat two teams that are top 5 in OH in Div. 1. Stover reached 1,000 pts., Valencia was dominant in the paint with just about every major college in the country watching, and Dee was everywhere both days racking up ridiculous numbers again. It had to be especially gratifying to Stover and Bekelja to do that in their final CITC. Modkins and Mitchell also played very well. Gabby Mitchell has turned into an elite defender and her willingness to take a charge on anyone at anytime is invaluable. Here are some articles and stats from the CITC:
