Beck to Texas
Now that Tom Herman hired Tim Beck to be his OC and QB coach, I guess we'll eventually find out if it was Beck, or Urban himself, that was the main problem for the stagnant offense and play out of Barrett.
A big immediate concern is Beck and Herman take some recruits with them, like Browning and Okudah. Even Martell. Beck did a great job recruiting Texas and QB's. That might be missed sooner than imagined.
I'm not a Beck apologist, but I also can't believe he did all the bad stuff he is accused of without Urban's approval. Meyer is very hands-on with offense and QB.

Yeah, recruits are my biggest concern but I wouldn't think an offensive guy had much of a hand in recruiting Browning and Okudah. I honestly can't believe he is going to be the OC, but if he is strictly "running Herman's offense," I guess it could make sense.

Fickell was Browning's main recruiter and Fickell told him he was likely going to leave. I give it a 1% chance Browning, Okudah or Martell leave.
However, I don't expect OSU to get many more top Texas recruits.

Okudah hasn't committed yet, but he is expected to this Saturday from last I heard.

The Texas HS coaches are very insular. It's important to be "one of them" for them to give their players the blessing to head to a certain school. Herman and Beck were specifically hired by Urban because they both have the seal of approval of the Texas HS coaching community. Beck was the guy who continued Herman's Texas inroads. Urban must find a new coach who can take Beck's place as the Texas recruiting specialist.

I am wondering if Beck leaving for a lateral position was Urban's way of backing Warriner as the true play caller. Several sources have already identified that Warriner was the dominant play caller, Beck would more or less handle the passing game and Urban just oversaw and would veto what he wanted. I do not think that Beck was a great play caller, but I have a hard time doubting Herman's judgment when it comes to offensive ingenuity.
I also find it rather intriguing that a beat writer for the Buckeyes brought up a couple year old quote from Urban that stated that coaches do not leave Ohio State for lateral positions. They either become head coaches in college or the NFL. While I certainly paraphrased this quote, it has led me to believe that maybe Urban is backing Warriner in this fiasco.

I sure hope he isn't backing Warriner as the true play caller. He was average, at best, all year.

I heard someone claim that Warinner was the driving force in the play-calling behind Cardale and Zeke's offensive explosion through Wiscy, Bama, and Ducks. Read it in here once, too.
Whatever Beck does in Texas, it will be done Herman's way.

That may be the case but they weren't that good this year. Maybe it was just Barrett being a bad passing QB.
