2016 Final Four

In Div II action:

Lake Catholic goes down to Padua in 5! Will be interesting to hear what happened in this one.

Columbus Hartley beats Circleville Logan Elm in 3.

Hartley vs Padua for the state title on Saturday.

Recap on the Padua vs Lake Catholic game: http://highschoolsports.cleveland.co...te-semifinals/

...But midway through the fourth set the tide turned. Lake Catholicís setters suddenly had trouble getting the ball set and the Cougars got noticeably shaken.

I called this as the Cougarettes Achilles Heel in another thread, to be effective in volleyball you have to be strong in all facets of the game. From what I heard LC hitters were not getting the sets in good spots after the 3rd and they were having to tip or roll over too many swings, made them an average team at that point and a good team like Padua took advantage of this.

In Div IV action:

Jackson Center defeats Dalton in four sets.

As for the other match, a great one was just played>

PHP Code:
                                          1     2     3     4     5
TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATH
.                 25    27    30    23    16
MCCOMB                                   27    25    28    25    14
Aggregate score was 121-119 with only one match ending with the winner needing 25. Congrats to both teams for giving it their all and I hope TCC still has something in the tank for their match tomorrow against Jackson Center.

Brecksville beats MND in 4 sets. Tupa family now has state titles in football (father) and volleyball (daughter).

State title winners>

Div I: Brecksville
Div II; Padua
Div III: Miami East
Div IV: Jackson Center

The best players on the Div I & II teams were athletic Setters, looks like that may be the key to winning a title.

Here's my take of a great weekend of volleyball:

D1 - I was so very impressed with Brecksville's setter. Quick, Athletic and was a tremendous blocker. in set four I was amazed that MND kept pushing the ball outside to her. Great match and I was thoroughly impressed with BBH.

D2 - Wow was Chatman from Hartley a big hitter!! in the long run it was passing that hurt Hartley and Padua was just too strong from the outside. Impressive weekend for the Bruins

D3 - The finals were a great match! Tusky Valley didn't crumble after being down 2-0 to even it up. In the decisive fifth set, it was like Miami East went into another gear. Best play of the state tournament (and one of the best I've ever seen) was when Parker made a one arm save in the back of the court by falling on the ground, gets back up, runs to the net and stuffs Tusky's outside...crazy!!

D4 - Jackson Center showed why they were undefeated throughout the season. So solid defensively and their outside hitter was a beast!

Overall, as always, a very entertaining weekend!!

Looking forward to next year!
