Has anyone heard how the Freshman class is developing?

Nothing to report until camp start. Also donít put too much stock in what happens freshmen year as a sign of what will happens at varsity level

That is the norm for most high school boys. Nothing says you can't stop by and watch practice when they start camp Aug 1. Also they will probably have 2-3 scrimmages.

Having had multiple boys play at St X with varying degrees of success my best advice for freshmen football is don't get too overconfident if you start, or too down if you are third or fourth on the depth chart. Freshmen success is not a good predictor of varsity success.

Also be very open to playing whatever position the coaches want you to play. I have seen too many kids who define themselves as a QB, LB or whatever and they resist moving.

Most importantly enjoy the ride it will go quickly.

agree that freshmen football can be misleading and players need to be open to play all positions.

having said that I do know St X got a lot of good athletes in the freshmen class. i would define it as a class with good prospects on the Oline//Dline, good skill positions, good speed with athletic kids, and good mix of East/North/Westside Catholic League Players and a good mix of Public school kids as well. I don't know if there is a standout QB like there have been with some of the previous classes.

Brian Fitzgerald's (HOF RB) oldest son is in the class. Think he is a pretty good athlete and has played QB. Not sure how big he is so he may be looked at as a DB by the coaches if there are other quality QB's in the class...

Chuckle. I get it. Actually my third and youngest son. First two played high school and college. So I get the teen caveman grunts! My older two played with a few St Xavier kids in college and were so impressed with how prepared the were for college that they convinced their younger brother to attend St. X. So new to the community and just looking make sure he is doing well and making friends. He came knowing no one at all. Did play AAU with one guy... sorry.

But thank you for your replies. Nice to know somebody g!!

The hardest part usually for all freshman is Time Management once School, Practice and games all get going together. Your son has 2 older brothers they will be a big help! Good luck!

Thank you!! Actually the older kids are twins. One in La and the other in NYC. But Kyle Ralph was their OLine coach in high school and the played with Robby Reis (?) in college( til he got injured.) My twins as well as Kyle and Robby convinced my Lilttle guy (6’3” 258) that St X would prepare him for life much better. And from, what we have been included in for the past 6 months I definitely think he made the right choice. I just hope he (my youngest) can fit in, develop friends (very shy and quiet) and keep up the the academics. Thank you St. X for welcoming him as you have. Been an excellent experience so far!

My boys played Frosh ball at X. Ed Nardini is head coach, been doing it forever and is really close with Coach Specht. Ed is an alum and teacher, he gets the pressures of new school, new faces, heavy academics and does a great job of balancing that for freshman. He's big on development and appreciates what the kids go through.
