14Red is an unknown quantity at this point
As sad as it is to think about, this is not a fixable problem.

We will continue to see school shootings, there are no enough controls on students who come to school. Kids with behavioral issues are forced to go to school. We don't have a way of keeping high risk students away.

Metal detectors only keep the guns from being brought into school. The shooters will just shoot from outside as kids go into school. That's not a solution.

When you think about it, schools are places were we bring in large numbers of diverse kids with varrying degrees of maturity, economic backing, ability and intelligence. Kids have more moxy, more resouces, more gall now than ever before.

You wonder if this may speed up the process of more on-line learning, where kids don't physically attend a school daily, they learn from their homes. Talk about cutting edge? No desks, no school building to maintain, and now no security issues to deal with.

I hate to say it, but if we could keep the guns out of the school buildings it might not be a home run but it would be a stand up triple. The amount of damage that could be done outside the buildings would be a great deal less than attacking a bunch of unarmed kids with nowhere to run. A situation like Vegas (I won't get specific but you get the picture) would be similar to a breach of the school but at the beginning or end of the school day the kids would be defused enough that the kids could run to safety with much less loss of life.

And still receiving state taxpayer money on a "per student" basis as if you did have these things. Great racket!

Today is Memorial Day. It is time to remember and honor the 650,000, mostly young people, many thousands high school age, who died in combat defending our rights. That a handful of deranged young people abuse those rights to kill 100 of their fellow young Americans is very sad. I hope today, at least, the people who would deprive Americans of some of those rights that those many thousands of young Americans died for will view this issue in perspective.
