I posted before they played UNC and admittedly, I didn't even know they were about to play each other. whoops.

IU is really good but they will do what they've done the last few years and have some head-scratching losses.

He will just outrun everyone down the court and score in transition.
UK is facing the easiest part of their schedule and Willis is shooting 26.7% from 3. He had a career last year but is regressing to what he really is: a below average outside shooter.

Hawkins is shooting 10% from 3 in 17 minutes and is a career 21.1% 3pt shooter.

Monk is pretty good.

Birscoe is below average. If he continues to improve he may be average by the end of the year.

Fox is a god awful outside shooter.

Mulder is good.

UCLA repeatedly giving up transition baskets AFTER made shots is embarrassing. C'mon Steve

West Va picks up a big road win at Virginia. I think the Cavs are probably more like a 20-25 team this year, not top 10, but still big time

Never thought both teams would match or come close to their averages of 97 and 95 going into the game. That was with UCLA slowing the game down the last 8-10 minutes. UK will be fine and though I of course want them to win every game I'm not upset with a few loses. Seems to make the team hungry. Root for them to lose the SEC Championship game every year.

Spot on brianwr. This was a good loss for a young team early in the season.

No issues with the loss for UK. It can only help this young team. I'm sure they will be just fine. I didn't see the game but I knew UCLA was a good shooting team. It sounds like the Leaf kid had a great game for UCLA.

Actually, 40% is really good from 3pt land. I'd say anything north of 35% is pretty good. If you shoot 40% from 3 point land, you'd need to shoot 64% to keep up points wise.

you missed the point. i was defending the point that uk has pretty good shooters. they have guys shooting the same percentage as duke players, and duke is considered to have good shooters.......im not a uk fan by any means, but consider a few of their guys to be good shooters.

I really thought UK was gonna pull that out after Monk hit his first 3 with 10.4 to go from about 5 feet behind the arc. Great, great game.

Tough chore for the UK youngsters to go into Louisville and pull off a win. I think UK is still a very good team, but Cal has a bit of work to do with them. Monk and Fox can't be of the mindset that they will/can do it by themselves. Other guys have to look for their shots. Making free throws would have helped last night too.

It's never a bad day when Kentucky loses. After all, all Cal is worried about is getting these guys to the NBA.

At some point, I hope there is a true minor league developmental pro league so many of these kids who think they are pros when they are 17 and 18 can just go and not waste everyone's time in college.

why would Cal want them to go to the NBA? Wouldn't it be easier for him to win if all his one and dones stayed?

There is.

John left a legacy of cheating and corruption behind at UMass and Memphis. Hard to deny that.

Nothing tied directly back to him, just his players and the programs. I know even you know this doesn't mean he's clean.

Nebraska played a GREAT game, better than they have most of the season. IU is young, talented, but young. Young players are up and down. IU's main issue is unforced turnovers. They like to play fast, but it create some bedlam and many times force passes and shots that just don't work. High risk, high reward plays.
I think the biggest think Yogi Ferrell gave the Hoosiers last year is the knowledge of when to step on the gas, and when to back off. If IU got into a game like the Nebraska game, he'd have the experience to pull it back, run some offense and not just take the first available shot. Josh Newkirk, Curtis Jones, Robert Johnson don't have the same command of the team (leadership) that Yogi did.
IU should be ok, they are too talented to fall apart, but they are good enough to beat Kansas and NC, yet bad enough to lose to Ft. Wayne and Nebraska at home.

I'm not concerned about NCAA violations, he just does not have the vision for ALL the kids, he's only concerned with one thing, getting them ready for the NBA. Even as good as he recruits, MOST of his players will not play pro basketball, or at least for any significant amount of time.
In my world, I want college coaches to get these kids ready for real life. The NBA is and should remain a pipe dream for most of these kids. They have the opportunity to get a legitimate degree...for FREE!!! We spend way too much time talking about draft stock and playing pro ball. Only the select few get there.
