Longest stoppage time I ever saw was 10 or so in an EPL game. From what I can remember, there was a bad injury late that they couldn't move the guy quickly off the field. So, they had to count every minute. No way to skim it as it was obvious how much time was left when it happened.

Which is my only gripe with soccer is that the official still holds the time, but it's clear they're not keeping time with how it should be recorded. And how frequently the game ends right at or a few seconds after the extra time is over.

USA survives... will play either Brazil or Peru..

Costa Rica currently tied 1-1 with Columbia midway in the first half... USA would win the pool with a Costa Rica win...

Costa Rica dominating, leading 3-1 @ the 70th minute. Columbia took a huge risk resting their stars... might burn them.

I give it to John Brooks. That clear he made when Paraguay had a 3-1 break was awesome and he was the best defender on the pitch.

Costa Rica gets the upset win making USA the pool champion and now the USA will likely play Ecuador if they can defeat Haiti today...

The winner was a hand ball. FIFA needs to get replay system in place

Brazil was putting a lot more effort into their Olympic team for obvious reasons, but even so Brazil's third or fourth team should be better than most of the teams in Copa America. Sad few years for Brazilian football

While that is true, there was an obvious foul in the box in the first half which would of given Peru a penalty kick.... I think it evened out in the end.

This is all on Brazil, they played for a 0-0 tie and got burned.

Fouls are judgement calls, hand balls... Is there any other major sport outside of soccer that doesn't have a replay system for scoring plays? All four US major pro leagues review close scoring calls, why can't high stakes international soccer matches? Just saying with the current technology there has to be a better way of getting a call right.

By the way, Brazil just didn't look engaged in this tourney and their national team is in transition, it all started with that a-kicking Germany gave them at home during the WC. The only side that looks like they really want this trophy is Mexico and a potential championship game against Argentina in NYC might cause Trump's head to explode.

Soccer does have a goal system. But that's just to confirm the entire ball crossed the line. It doesn't question how the ball crossed. That's entirely up to the officials on the field. Because then defensive handballs to keep the ball out (such as Suarez's in the WC) wouldn't be reviewed.

Rugby has one official in a booth that can review calls using every possible broadcast feed. Never takes more than two minutes. All the lead official has to do is ask, and there is no shame or lack in honor for him asking to get the right call. Similarly tennis has had a video replay for decades that is all automated.

The technology and ability is there to have replay be quick and efficient but in every case its pride and more importantly cost that keeps it from being implemented. The NFL pays a guy to measure sock height before each game, i'm sure they could afford to pay a guy to sit in an office and watch video on a computer.

Chile vs Panama should be a good one....

Even though Chile is a strong favorite that really doesn't mean much in this tournament....

Hope France beats Albania by 7 goals tomorrow. Lots of Alba trash in my neighborhood and they have to be the most degenerate ethnic group in the Bronx. Sorry to derail the thread.

Zip-lock bags of piss, actually. Ensures that it ruptures on impact. A common tactic at Estadio Azteca.

Tennis uses by far the best replay system. The decision is always right and comes within seconds. Not sure why every sport doesn't use it, especially hockey (did the puck cross the line?) and basketball (out of bounds plays, 3pt shots) where it would be easy to implement.

A question about yellow cards...

I always thought that the yellow cards reset once you get out of pool play and into the knock out rounds. This is not the way in Copa-America... Has it always been this way in each tournament or is each tournament different?

There are a variety of rules for card accumulation depending on confederation and league.
