John Carroll's Tom Arth to UT-Chatanooga

Tom Arth gets a big promotion, moving to UT Chatanooga in the Southern Conference (D-I FCS). It has been reported that Peyton Manning was a big fan of Arth's when he played 3rd string QB for the Indianapolis Colts. Manning lives in Chatanooga, so connect the dots.

Very interesting. He just purchased a house near JCU and the Jesuits I have spoken to were crowing about the home grown kid taking the program to the next level.

What they are saying about Tom Arth:

"I am very happy for Tom Arth. Tom was with the Indianapolis Colts with me. You could tell then he was very cerebral and had the qualities to be a great coach. I have stayed in touch with him and he worked our Manning Passing Academy. He did a great job at John Carroll and I think he will be an excellent coach for UTC. He has strong work ethic, a passion for football and is a great hire for UTC."
- Peyton Manning

"Tom is an incredible football coach and leader and an even better friend. His work ethic, knowledge and passion for the game of football is infectious, and I am grateful to have shared the opportunity to work with him. Tom has done a great job at John Carroll over the past seven seasons and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga should be very excited about the quality of work that he will bring to their university and football program on a daily basis. I look forward to seeing his continued success and the impact he can make on so many individuals."
- Dave Caldwell - Jacksonville Jaguars General Manager

"Congratulations on making a great hire in Tom Arth. You have chosen a high-quality guy that will do very well as the Mocs' head coach. Tom and I attended the same high school in Cleveland (St. Ignatius) and I have followed closely his career with John Carroll University. Well done!"

Congrats to Tom. When he gets his fill of college football, he can return to Cleveland and take over for Chico.

Wow, I'm very impressed by UT-Chattanooga's ability to (sorry for the cliche) "think outside the box" on this one. I would have never guessed that UTC would reach into the DIII ranks for a guy from "Yankee territory."

Reviews in Chattanooga are so far so good.

I presume Coach Arth is getting a very handsome salary increase.

The Spiders initially offered Huesman a figure similar to what Rocco was making, but UTC countered Tuesday afternoon by offering Huesman financial increases pushing his salary near $325,000 and raising the pool of money for assistant coaches to make it one of the richest in the country, sources said.
