- The big winner was Verizon, they announced their version of unlimited data during a Grammy's Ad and that is what was blowing up on Twitter.

That's awesome. Do you vote on the Grammys ? Because that's who I referred to with that.

I have friends of my brother who are almost 50 and are white and they know rap too. Again never said all.

I watched an academic documentary on the subject so I too know all there is to know on the subject of rap. Anyone in a Kangol hat or wearing Adidas shoes is keeping it real and worthy of an award.

Beyonce was great. Chance the Rapper was great.

I thought Gaga was the saving grace of that Metallica collaboration.

MentorMad trying really hard to make sure everyone knows he has white friends.

Sounds like the white guy who says "I'm not racist! I have black friends!"

You try way too hard. The majority of my friends are white although I do hang around all different types of people.

I merely brought up an example. Can't say my brother is a older white guy who knows rap in my circle cuz my brother isn't white

I personally don't get the appeal of hers or adeles latest albums. I think they are subpar compared to their previous works

The Grammys do have their favorites though. These two are two of them. Sort of like Meryl Streep nominated at least for most Oscar years

Do you know the difference

Let's just say "mainstream Rap" is corporate and true authentic "Hip Hop" is never rewarded on award shows in fact all award shows are corporate. Those shows are based on quantity, who sales what, not quality. True MC's don't care about award shows.
Radio only plays "Rap" music which some people think is "Hip Hop" there is a difference.

Beyonce's album had almost every genre and had some really great melodies and lyrics. Adele's was more of the same from her, but she makes adult contemporary music, which is what Grammy voters eat up.

Or Eminem winning it for all those albums outside of his first 2. Or Macklemore beating Kendrick Lamar. Or Common never winning the category.

Sometimes you'll get a mainstream one that deserves it for real content too. Like slim shady lp or the score from the fugees

But mostly it's about poppy rap that is loved by the teenagers on pop radio

KRS-1 has been emceeing for 4 decades and has never won an emmy and I can go on forever,,,,
Rakim
Nas
PE
Blackstar(Mos Def and Taleb Kweli)
The Roots(unbelievable!)
and so on....

These artists have been out for decades not one award. You don't obtain longevity in music without being great.

If it weren't for Jimmy Fallon many people would have not heard of The Roots.

Yet Eminem has won rap album of the year 5-6 times. That's a disgrace

There are a ton of examples. Wu Tang Clan hasn't won the big award. Lupe Fiasco gets nominated but never wins.

They just don't know about rap. Been saying this stuff my entire life. That's why I'm glad we have dvr now so I can skim these types of shows

You highlighted. You said mainstream people make up the majority of the academy. And that you need a slew of mainstream contributions to be eligible to vote. So if rap and metal aren't mainstream , then they aren't going to be fairly represented on the committee

The majority of voters are old white people. That's how it is. There's no debate on it which is why you can't refute the point with stats. It's been well known for years

It's not just old white people voting who are ignorant of rap though. Again I never said that though

Wait a minute Skippy. Is it the pasty old white people voting down your fringe hard rap or is it the mainstream poppy rap that is loved by teenagers on pop radio... Which one is it?

Motörhead is considered one of the greatest rock bands of all time by many. But theyre fringe hard rock. Metallica never got any acclaim until they went mainstream. You seem to be forgetting like anything else the more mainstream something is the more popular it is and the more votes it gets. You want boutique artsie fartsie critiques of rap or any other music as "art" and hand out awards and such, you need to start something like the Sundance Film Festival where a movie might get big credits from "film majors" but flop at the theaters.

BTW, I'm still waiting on that head count of pasty old white dudes in the Academy trippin' up your game.

Disagree. Adele's album was good (predictable but good), Beyonce's was great, Rihanna's was good, Chance the Rapper was good, Kanye's was ok, etc. Today's country music is a variation of the same 2 of 3 songs. It's so stale.
