Dayton D1 Sectional

Voting for the Dayton D1 Sectional opens tomorrow and closes a week from today. How the seeding will shape out will be very interesting. I have rankings as of today that I think below but things of course will change. I wanted to start the discussion especially since I have only seen about half the sectional play and am struggling with seeding teams after the top 5. Hope this starts a good discussion!
1 Springfield
2 Wayne
3 Sidney
4 Northmont
5 Centerville
6 Fairborn
7 Bellefontaine
8 Xenia
9 Greenville
10 Butler
11 Beavercreek
12 Springboro
13 Stebbins
14 Fairmont
15 Miamisburg
16 Troy
17 Piqua
18 Lebanon
19 Belmont
20 Tecumseh

I wont be shocked if Northmont is #2. They beat Wayne and as of now have better record

Centerville beat Sidney (albeit by 2) but I wouldn't be surprised if they swapped spots. I think Sidney ends up 4 or 5.

the North teams Don't usually get a lot of respect I think Northmont might be a 2.
Springfield
northmont
wayne Centerville
sidney

after that not a lot of difference between 6 thru 15

also be surprised to see belmont behind Piqua. Piqua is really down this year and Belmont spanked them.

Centerville dropped another game tonight, losing at Fairborn 58-54. That basically negates their win over Sidney. It doesn't get easier for the Elks ahead of the draw; they host Taft Tuesday, Fairmont on Friday and Trotwood Saturday.

that list could be the weakest talent level for D-1 in the Dayton area in the last 20 years...what the hell has happened to Dayton area basketball? Almost .500 teams with 5th and 6th seeds...sad really

D2 is where it's at in Dayton, ever since Ohio went to four divisions about thirty years ago. Dunbar, Thurgood Marshall, Alter, Trotwood Madison (this year), etc. No Dayton D1 team has never won a state championship since the four division classification. Seven state champs from Dayton in D2 in that same time period. In D1, other than Wayne and Trotwood Madison (before they became D2) occasionally making noise, who else is there? Traditional Dayton powers and previous big school state champs such as Alter and Dunbar play in lower divisions now.

EDIT: Wayne won state in 2015.

noise..

the Centerville Elks used to make a lot of noise in the D-1 group...just recently as a matter of fact with a squad composed of good, but not great players. They used to send numerous players on to D-1 college ball a few years ago...

This seems kinda like an "anything can happen" year. Beavercreek beats Springfield early in the year then goes in the tank. Fairmont beats Sidney, Xenia, Springboro, but loses to Lebanon. Now Fairborn beats Centerville? Could be an interesting tournament.

Yea....real recent. Like Elite 8 last year. And Sweet 16 the year before that. Only D1 Dayton team to play in regionals in last two seasons.

Just second time Centerville went to back to back regionals.....and the first time in 13 years.

Wayne played in regionals in 2015. And won State. Didn't play in regionals in 2016.

Springfield played in regionals (and Elite 8 game) in 2015. Didn't play in regionals in 2016.

Centerville only Dayton team to play in regionals in both of last two years. 2015 & 2016.

With a lot less talent too.

Sidney is young and very talented. 3 sophomores and 2 juniors start. Being that young, however, they seem to be a crapshoot depending on the night. Beat Trotwood in perhaps their best game in many years then turn around and lose to Tipp the following game. If they can stay focused, they could make a run.

I think part of the reason there are so many .500 teams is the GWOC is top heavy. Springfield, Trotwood, Sidney, and Northmont are really good. Wayne is in that group but has lost to Springfield and Northmont. I'd take the top of Dayton over the top of Cincy.

I think Northmont and Springfield are the two best DI teams. There really hasn't been any DI teams that have stood out in Dayton. Fairmont hangs with a lot of teams and I could see them knocking off someone. Also, Springboro is supposed to be in full strength come tourney time. Centerville is a 2 man show and then it drops off. Beavercreek, Xenia, Sidney etc all have a fair share of losses.

Northmont is 14-4. Sidney is 15-4. Northmont lost to Trotwood. Sidney beat Trotwood. Not sure how you see Nortmont standing out over Sidney. I'm guessing if they play each other 10 times, they go 5-5.

Looking at common opponents is muddled because top teams have beaten each other. Northmont for example beat Wayne but lost to Centerville. Centerville also beat Sidney but hasn't beat Wayne or Springfield. I think the top 6 is clear order not withstanding but after that it's really hard to seed.

I'd put Fairmont up at 7. They've beaten Boro and Xenia and Sidney. Plus really close games against their GWOC East opponents.

Bad loss to Lebanon is as eye popping as win against Sidney, if you put them #7 you're saying they are on the heels of the elite teams. They are not that high quality in my opinion, saw them play and they underwhelmed me.

I've seen at least 10-12 of this region and I don't have any problems with your rankings. Springfield #1 no doubt and if Blue plays Wayne will be #2, if healthy. The next 3 are interchangeable imo. Agree with bottom 6 in general. Only middle of the pack team I would maybe move up is springboro. Definitely move them up over beavercreek, they hammered Beavercreek earlier this year by 20 or so. Creek also lost Alessandro for the year I heard, missed the last 2-3 games and doesn't dress. Overall though I'd say your seeding will be pretty close to what comes out Sunday night.

Sorry jas I see in your updated seeding you moved Boro over BC. I agree northmont could possibly jump Wayne but as long as you get a top 3 you get a bye and don't have to play the other top seeds of the 3 brackets

And lost to beavercreek. Not saying they're not capable of an upset but like most of the GWOC after the top 3-4 teams anyone can beat anyone, and lose to anyone. It will be interesting this year. Most interested in who gets the 4 seed and has a tough matchup in sectional final
