Don't ever bring up beating Fairmont again, they wouldn't win any league in NE Ohio other than the PTC.
1. I'm trying to tell you that Boardman & East aren't bad at all. They just don't jump out at you "on paper" in regards to individual talent, but they play well together. When they're in rhythm, they can surprise. WGH is still a mystery to many, but across the board, this is probably the best year that the Mahoning Valley has had in a while. WGH just isn't the main team getting the "hype" around here like they usually are, but I don't have a problem with that. Good for the other programs for getting the respect/recognition that they deserve. Hopefully, it won't stop with the regular season.

2. IDK what Fairmont would do in NEO, but WGH beating them in WV, especially under their circumstances, was very big. Everybody has their opinion, but you're not going to convince me that at the very worst, Fairmont wouldn't beat the majority of the teams on Ellet's schedule. As Warren West mentioned, WGH closes the season with Ursuline, Canton McKinley, & Maple Heights, so the Raiders have plenty of tests left before they can think about the tournament. Gotta keep getting better everyday!

Ursuline also had a nice year out of the Mahoning Valley and probably would be in the mix w/ WGH and Boardman for the top 3 spots locally. They beat Lake, Canton Central Catholic, and Aquinas but lost to Massillon, as far as vs teams from Stark County area.

Exactly. He tried to say that "the Mahoning Valley was down this year." Hardly.

Coach Gunther always has his guys playing nice ball. I'll see them tomorrow!

Harding usually are underachievers every year. Maybe this year with their guy out they will finally have a little success

"Underachievers?" Since 2005, WGH has...

-Played in 10 district championship games (won 4)
-Lost to 7 eventual Final Four teams
-Lost to the eventual state champion 3 times

If you made an "All-Star roster" of the players from the teams that WGH lost to in the playoffs, it'd look like this...

C- Kosta Koufos... Canton Glenoak
PF- Jared Sullinger... Columbus Northland
SF- Raymar Morgan... Canton McKinley
SG- C.J. McCollum... Canton Glenoak
PG- Trey Burke... Columbus Northland
B- Tom Prichard... Lakewood St. Edward
B- J.D. Weatherspoon... Columbus Northland
B- Ricky Jackson... Canton McKinley
B- Esa Ahmad... Shaker Heights
B- Trey Lewis... Garfield Heights

Nobody brags about losing, but taking losses to that level of talent is "underachieving?" That list doesn't even include the four Division 1 recruits that Garfield Heights had on their roster last year.

In 2009, WGH lost their all-time leading scorer (since the consolidation in 1990) Sheldon Brogdon to injury and still made it to the final four. That was a while ago, but many thought that team overachieved as very few gave WGH a shot after Brogdon went down. Very few are expecting much out of WGH this year, but that's why they play the game!

Louisville took down Hoover by 15 tonight. All the talk has been Lake or Ellet winning in Alliance, but looks like there could be 5 teams capable of winning this district.

By the way Boardman improved to 16-3 with an 83-56 win at Lakeside tonight. Spartans play Cardinal Mooney Saturday and Perry Tuesday at home and then at Fitch Next Friday to close out the regular season.

Louisville has definitely improved, not to take anything away from them, but Hoover was without probably their best player.

However, I agree with you and think they have as good a chance as anyone, especially in the bottom half of the bracket.

Lake and Louisville play next Tuesday, I expect it to be a battle.

The Leps deserved the win. Louisville created turnovers, scored in transition, and played good defense. Hoover is definitely not as good without their big man and the lack of chemistry showed. I do think the Leps are playing good basketball right now and playing team basketball. I thought the sophomore really stepped up his game tonight and showed his great potential in the next two years. Congrats to Senior Leopard Chris Libertore on becoming Louisville's all-time leading scorer tonight! The kid really is the anchor of his team.

The district is wide open in my mind. Wouldn't be surprised if any of the 5 teams won it. Should be a dandy!

It will be Ellet or Lake. Lake has the easiest path there and Ellet is the best team. If Harding or East upset Ellet, Lake would easily beat them.

Not sure how interesting of games these will be. I think with the exception of Boardman-Louisville game the other 3 will be 20+ point wins.
