Alliance DI district...

Here are the teams (records may not be 100% accurate but close).

Ak.East (4-13)
Ak.Ellet (12-3)
Ak.Springfield (4-11)
Austintown Fitch (3-10)
Boardman (11-3)
Kent Roosevelt (3-11)
Louisville (9-7)
Uniontown Lake (11-4)
Warren Harding (8-7)
Warren Howland (8-8)
Youngstown East (8-7)

Seeding is next weekend, lets start talking about it.
Favorites, darkhorses, players to watch?...

I think the #1 seed is obviously between Ellet and Lake and it probably doesn't really matter. Harding is still dangerous and Boardman is capable of an upset. Not sure about the other Mahoning valley teams, someone will have to fill me in. Kent Roosevelt may be far and away the worst team.

Right now I would say #1-4 would be Ellet, Lake, Harding, Boardman. If Lake were to beat Jax before the draw then I would flip-flop the top two.

Define bad. Because none of these teams will be state champs? If so, that's a bad indicator. This district will be fun and competitive like all of them.
Go to bed.

I have to agree this is a pretty weak district. The number 4 seed may have a losing record or barely above .500, how often does that happen. The only darkhorse is Boardman that I know absolutely nothing about. Ellet should have an excellent shot at taking this.

Ellet did not play to well when they beat Lake the first time through. they let Lake get in the game by giving some wide open shots. Ellet is really banged up, will be interesting to see if they are healthy for the tournament. I like Harding to come out of here

WGH will be without their big guy, Culver.

Ellet or Lake will take this district IMO.

WGH went on the road and beat one of the best teams from West Virginia without Culver. That was a month ago.

Long road ahead, but WGH may surprise you. We'll see!

I'd say it will likely be Ellet, Lake, Boardman, and WGH in that order.

I would think Ellet would get the nod over Lake because of the head to head win. Boardman I think gets the nod over WGH based on record and they did split the season series.

Out of the rest of the teams, the one I would not sleep on is Youngstown East. They have the capability of pulling an upset vs one of the top 4. They blew a late big lead on Friday vs Harding and played Boardman pretty tough. On the other hand, they could very well lose to a Fitch or Howland. But, of the Youngstown area teams, I think they are the most likely to pull off an upset of one of the top 4.

East is a much improved team. I was impressed with their intensity the other night. Definitely made Harding earn it!

It's good to see a Youngstown city team that is pretty good. I remember back in the 90's Rayen being very good, maybe as good as anyone in the Youngstown/Warren area in several of the years.

Great Rayen teams went back even further. They had some great teams, in the late 70's, and early 80's. I believe they won state, and maybe got there a few times back then. They had an excellent basketball program through those years.

Can someone get an updated record for all those teams after tonight? I can get the Akron City ones out of the Beacon tomorrow. Looking in the paper from the weekend, I think Ellet is 12-3 after beating Kenmore, Akron East has 4 wins still after losing to Firestone, and Akron Springfield is 6-10 after losing Friday and Saturday.

Ya, they did, but that's why I said they are just as capable to lose to a poor team. They have been a little inconsistent, but seem to have played their best against their best competition.

They lost games on the road to Harding, Ursuline, and Boardman, all in the final minute. Ursuline also beat Lake earlier in the year, just as a side note.

Boardman now 12-3 after beating Canfield
Harding 11-6 after win vs Fitch (3-12)
East is 9-7 after win over Struthers

Springfield is the clear bottom team here. They won tonight in overtime to Cloverleaf. They play in the worse league and play Avery bad nonleague schedule.

Worm, I got text from back home tonight saying Bowden scored 33 and they wondered what the single game record was in Warren, both WGH and WWR. Any idea? I told them I recall Ian Folmer having games like that in the late 80's but that I didn't know for sure. My guess is it's not even close, but I'm not that well informed about it.

No idea what the answer to this question is but most teams have at least a couple 33 point scorers every year. Worm probably has a better answer but I wouldn't think it was close

I THINK that I remember Fernando Phillips (Mike's older brother) dropping 40 one game. Not sure if anybody has scored more, but I believe that this is Lynn's 3rd (maybe 4th) game of 30+ this season.

Any of those top 4 teams can make it in my eyes. Just glad to see my Spartans finally having some success on the court. It's been awhile... Lol.

Thanks, Worm.

That's just it, KKB - as far as I can recall, Warren has rarely had that big scorer who got 30-40 consistently. It seems like it's always scoring by committee with 3-4 players having 14-20 points or so and 3-4 others bringing up the rear. Trumbull County has always had some notable kids, shooters, from the outskirts schools who score 40+ consistantly but it's never been that way in Warren. At least while I was living there anyway. Though, I also don't follow local as much anymore and basketball even less.
