It will be interesting where teams go in the brackets. I figure Springfield, Northmont, and Sidney will get the top 3 seeds....

Is that the same Beavercreek team that was down 30 to Springfield last week?

probably, they seem to be getting worse each game as they looked decent early in the season.

Jon Alessandro is out for the year. He was pretty solid early in the year. Now their only other consistent scorers are Baldwin and Young and after that it's a crap shoot

FYI to all Springfield fans, all 500 pre-sale tickets have been sold out for Friday night at Wayne. I got my ticket today at Wayne today and was told that by many people in the office, so just an update as far as Springfields tickets being gone. A decent amount of tickets still available at Wayne

I'm too exhausted at this point to do a full game recap and that is what watching a Wayne/Springfield game does to a person. Simply put, Wayne was once again without Smith, Fointno, and Palma and found themselves down by 17 in the 3rd. They mad an amazing comeback to take a 3 point lead and had 3 opportunities to extend it but could not. Once again Davis hits a huge 3 with under a minute to go to put Springfield on top. A McKee jumper with 3 seconds left was half way down but somehow rimmed out which would of gave Wayne the lead. Wayne had one more shot which was basically a half court 3 that hit board. Hard fought win for the CATS but both teams really need to work on free throw shooting. Wayne missed a ton including some key ones in the 4th. Congrats to Springfield on the GWOC championship and best of luck in the tourney. Maybe a game 3 is in the future!!!!

PS: Is Danny Davis human, that show he put on in the first qtr was mind boggling....

First league title for Springfield since the merger and first since South won 4 in a row from 2001-2005. Long time coming. Cats have little time to recover from this emotional and physically draining win - they travel to Columbus Northland Saturday.

GO CATS!!!!!!!

Game 21

THE GAME

Springfield traveled to Wayne to take on Warriors. Packed gym and once again Wayne was key starters Fointno and L. Smith. It did not take long for the Wildcats to get going as they jumped to a 6-0 lead following a McKay dunk. Trice got the scoring started for Wayne with a basket +1 but picked up 2 quick fouls and was out meanwhile Danny Davis went off for the Cats and put on a show drilling back to back three's the 2nd one was from way out as the CATS were up 13-5. Davis wasn't done as he drilled another 3 from 30+ feet away and it was 18-12 Springfield after 1. James led Wayne with 4 in the qtr while Davis put in 12 for the CATS...

Wayne closed within 4 to start the 2nd following a pair of free throws from Parker but the CATS got it going again and jumped out to a 31-18 lead following a Taylor 3. Wayne was able to cut it to 31-22 at the break following a James basket.

Springfield started the 3rd on a 8-0 run to go by 17 but the Warriors started to come back and following a Trice 3 it was 40-30 CATS. Wayne was heating it up as James, Quisenberry, and McKee hit and just like that we have a game with Springfield only up 43-39. Trice would hit another 3 for Wayne before the qtr was over and it was Springfield 45 Wayne 42 after 3. McKay drilled two 3's in the qtr for the CATS while Trice hit 3 for Wayne.

Trice scored the first two baskets for Wayne to start the 4th the 2nd pulled Wayne even at 46. Wayne got a stop and a Parker 3 put the Warriors up by 3. Davis would answer though with a 3 and we were deadlocked. We now hit the free throw part of the game and both teams struggled as Wayne maintained a lead. 3 times Wayne had a chance to extend the 3 point margin but failed each time. With Wayne up 53-52 with under a minute to go Wayne was only able to hit 1 of 2 free throws which set up Davis drilling a 3 late to put the CATS up by 1. Wayne played for the last shot and it looked to go down but halfway in it somehow spun out. Forced to foul with 3 seconds left the CATS made just 1 and a half court shot at the buzzer hit board as the Springfield Wildcats survived winning 56-54 locking up the GWOC championship and the #1 seed in the tourney.

Springfield 18 13 14 11 - 56
HH Wayne 12 10 20 12 - 54

Springfield 16-2; Wayne 14-7

Scoring: SF- Davis 26, McKay 10, Taylor 7, Wallace 4, Moss 4, Rodgers 2, Fulkner 2, Parks 1... Wayne- Trice 19, Quisenberry 11, James 10, Parker 9, McKee 3, Hampton 2

Even though Wayne lost tonight I was still proud of them and the heart they had to come back in this game. They will grow from this game and though disappointed they will be plenty ready for the tournament.

=================================

JV action, Springfield pulls out a 56-48 win....

So Waynes losses to Northmont and Springboro count in the overall standings but Centervilles loss to Trotwood does not?

I can't figure it out either. I think the only crossover games that count in GWOC standings are when national crosses over to National and American crosses over to American.

National East games against National West count in East league play and vise versa. Same for American. North games against South count in North standings and vice versa. Games between American and National do not count I standings.

I do not have time to do a full game recap I will have to do that tomorrow but Centerville came away with a 56-53 win as Wayne missed a 3 at the buzzer. Saben went off for the ELKS scoring 27 points and Henderson came up big at key times for Centerville scoring 10 in the game. ELKS would build up leads early in the quarters and Wayne would make a run late. Down double digits Wayne rallied to get within 1 in the 4th but could not get it done.

Congrats to the ELKS! After playing two really good opponents (TROTWOOD & WAYNE) to finish the regular season, hopefully this will really sharpen the ELKS for another excellent run in the playoffs.

GAME 22

Huber Heights Wayne @ Centerville

McKee put Wayne up 2-0 to get the game started but it was the ELKS Saben who was on fire scoring 9 of the ELKS first 11 and giving them an 11-6 lead. Wayne would end the qtr on a 6-0 run as McKee and Parker scores baskets and James adds 2 free throws... 12-11 Wayne after 1.

Centerville started the 2nd on a 7-0 run and once again it was Saben drilling a 3. Parker would get Wayne on the board in the 2nd on a basket plus 1 but Saben hits again and it is 20-15 ELKS. Trice would hit a 3 for Wayne and Hampton with a layup as the Warriors tie the game at 22. A James free throw would put Wayne up 23-22 but a lapse on defense would leave Henderson uncovered under the basket for a score at the buzzer to give Centerville a 24-23 lead.

Once again it was Centerville going on a run to start a qtr and this time it was a 9-1 run following a Saben basket, 32-24 Centerville. Wayne though would battle back cutting into the lead. James would hit followed by Quisenberry lighting it up for 6 straight points and it was just 34-33 Centerville. But to stay true to the previous quarter it was Centerville hitting a key basket late as Grandin drilled a 3.

Once again like clockwork it was Centerville on a run to open the qtr, this time a 6-0 run to open up a 10 point lead. Wayne would chip at that lead and cut it in half with a Quisenberry 3. Trice would also hit a 3 for Wayne to make it 50-46 Centerville. Wayne got a stop and Quisenberry delivered, 50-48. Saben though found a hole and took it to the basket to put the ELKS up by 4. Trice came down and drilled another 3 to cut it to 1 late and it came down to free throws. Centerville did not do that great only making 50% but Wayne could not capitalize. Down by 3 Wayne had one last shot to tie the game but the 3 rimmed out and Centerville held on for a 56-53 win.

Wayne battled as they were still missing 2 starters and a key player off the bench but once again came up a bit short. They have been well tested and will likely get a chance at Centerville in a few weeks in the tournament.

HH Wayne 12 11 10 20 - 53
Centerville 11 13 13 19 - 56

Scoring: Wayne- James 14, Trice 11, Quisenberry 11, McKee 7, Parker 6, Hampton 4; Centerville- Saben 27, Henderson 10, Shelton 6, Grandin 6, Lash 5, Velasco 2.

While Saben was on fire he was not the star of the night, that goes out to the Troy Pop Rocks who put on a great show at halftime!!!!!

Wayne finished the regular season at 14-8, 7-5 in league (3rd place) and will take on the winner of the Miamisburg/Lebanon game on Tuesday Feb 28th at Vandalia Butler. Wayne defeated both teams comfortably in the regular season.

=====================================

The Wayne JV team lost a tough one in OT to Centerville. I will keep my fingers from typing something about that one official in that game.....

Will Ultimate Oldies broadcast all the tournament games as they have in the past? Also, is Wayne expecting to get any of the 3 injured players back for the tournament?
