Week 6: Toledo Central Catholic (3-2) @ Toledo St. Francis (1-4) @ U of Toledo

* The 56th game in the battle for "The Irish-Knight"

The Irish secondary got torched time after time last week against Fremont Ross. Good thing the frannies don't really have a passing game. Carswell is banged up, I believe he sat out the majority of the 2nd half against Lima Senior. I wonder if he's 100% or even able to play this Friday.

Central Catholic needs to do a better job at tackling or Carswell will get a good chunk of yards. Even with that said, 1 man cannot beat an entire team.

Gotta ask, why the hell do we blitz every single play? I think we had maybe 2 or 3 sacks last Friday even though we blitzed time after time. The pressure that's supposed to come from the blitz was negated by Fremont's ability to kill us on the screen.

This week, the Irish finally get to unleash the beast (LB Zach Sandwich). He's our best defensive player. I'm really excited to watch him play.

Go Irish! 10 to date, goin' for 11 straight!!

If St. Francis scores in this one I'll be impressed.

Ineligible.

How do you know he's your best defensive player if he hasn't even seen the field yet?

He's a transfer and had to sit the first 5 games.

Well, it's just a hunch. He played 1 year of high school ball (his freshman year) and received an offer from Toledo. Didn't play at all last season due to injury, yet still has strong interest from numerous college programs. Physically speaking, he looks like a beast. Think Chris Green. Man, what I would give to see both those 2 playing LB for the Irish this season.

Well he should fit fight in with the 278 blitz's Central runs per game.

Although if I were you, I'd wish he was a pass defender instead.

With SFS's only offensive weapon being the run game, I'm changing my prediction:

Central 49
St. Francis 7

We won a state championship a few years ago blitzing every down. I trust the coaching staff who spend endless hours watching film and coaching.

He's been down at Cherry St. so long, they're about ready to retire him.

Good point. It just seems odd that I never really see in-game adjustments when what they're doing isn't working that well.

I feel ya. I can't believe Southview lost to Anthony Wayne, what happened there? Is this a down year for the Cougars or what?

You also lost what could of been a state championship run last year by blitzing.

For Central to have a deep playoff run this year, they are gonna have to mix it up a bit and not be so obvious.

Watched the Lima Sr vs St Francis tonight and it's obvious that Carswell was taken out of the game with a head injury. In the wake of the disaster at tSUN, what protocol is followed? Does the state enforce something? The Toledo Diocese? Or is it strictly St Francis call? I've seen the privates use up these city kids before without much respect for their health, hopefully somebody stops another private school risk the health of another athlete.

State does if an official believes that it was indeed a head injury, you file a concussion report and then the school must prove to the OHSAA that he is cleared

Central, I've been saying this since the Avon game we lost at Fremont a few years ago. This defense needs to adjust to the modern spread attacks, playing man to man and blitzing on every play against good offenses just does not work. 52 points to Fremont Ross is a joke and will probably do this team in the postseason

Just found out that Central Catholic's starting defensive lineman, senior JJ Kenyetta, is out for the season due to a back injury. He hasn't played or dressed in a single game this year. I was wondering why he never dressed, but he apparently was never cleared to play. It's a shame for the senior, but hopefully he'll be able to wrestle this year. He's a pretty good wrestler, as well.

If Carswell doesn't play the school on Bancroft won't score. If he does play and they run the wildcat, the school on Bancroft won't score. The 60-0 score might be in danger...

SF gets this transfer QB from Clay eligible, so I wouldn't think Carswell will still have to play Wildcat.

CCHS was able to blitz every play and win in years past because they had better talent on the back end when they won the championship. Plus after 3 years, people have adjusted. Hedden is a heck of an offensive coach, so I would imagine he would try and copycat some of what Ross did to them last week. But there is no comparing the talent. CCHS names the score and I doubt SF scores more than 14.

Not only will we see Sandwisch make his Irish debut at LB, we'll see the return of the other starting LB, Simeon Washington. He was injured and sat out the last 3 games. Good to have him back and healthy.

Go Irish, indeed.

A win against Central Catholic would make St. Francis' season. Lets hope our Irish boys are ready and poised for a big game. The frannies are going to give it their all.

And then the Frannie starters couldn't get a single point on our 2nd and 3rd stringers in the 2nd half...

That was an incredibly fun game to watch if you're an Irish fan. I loved every second of that game. 11 straight years for the good guys. Go Irish
