Not sure what is going on over there. Seems strange to only have 6 varsity players last night and two of them wouldn't be there except for the coaching change. Are there other players in Barberton that are choosing not to play? Without Greynolds and Soyars, this team would be battling to stay out of last place instead of battling for second place.

Indians looked like themselves for 8-9 minutes straight in the 1st half when they went up 41-18 or whatever, but after that they played pretty lousy, much like Tues night at Wadsworth. Highland kept battling, to their credit, and actually shot the ball much better than Copley in the 2nd half. Emich & Hill gave the Indians a big lift last night. As for Rittman, he really didn't have the ball very much, which I think had something to do with Brenner being attached to him like glue most of the night. As for Copley, they need to regroup and start getting their focus back, because if they keep playing like this they'll be fortunate to win their 1st round tourney game.

All that and yet still won by double digits. I'd say they are just fine.

On paper you are absolutely correct H2, but the eye test would indicate something different. Still plenty of time to turn things back the other way though.

Or maybe Copley's gameplan to defend him with their best defender was the real story.

So when Highland knocks off Tallmadge tonight and Barberton Friday...then Kent next week to end the season, does that give them sole possession of 2ND place in the SLA for the season?

RW-Not sure if anything has changed since the new SLA & SLN structure, but I'm pretty confident that in the "old SL", if teams ended up tied in the standings, it was a tie no matter what had happened head-to-head. It would seem that that would still be a possibility under your scenario if I'm reading it right. Maybe some of the SL old-timers can chime in on my memory of league policy.

Ties are ties period. Whether it is for first or last place doesn't matter. There is no tie breaking procedure for football or basketball. Can't speak to the other sports. Co-champs have occurred occasionally.

If Highland beats Tallmadge, they would be tied. Even if there were tie-breakers, Tallmadge beat Highland the first time around.

Highland has stopped trapping and running, back to horrible Dribble drive from last year. Could easily trap against Tallmadge and didn't. Quick exit coming in playoffs. Fast team walking the ball up...

Very impressed by Rittman tonight. He played better this game than the last time these two teams met. He's quick and elevates really well for his drives and rebounds.

Tallmadge played very well as a team tonight. Good defense, rebounding, passing, and shot selection. A little bit of foul trouble caused some issues but everyone stepped up to fill in.

Not good! Highland coach is blowing it! Team started out 5-0 and beat Wads & Brunswick (albeit early), by pressing, trapping and running...picking up players full court, turning them, slowing them down. Rittman will get you 20+ not matter what you do, he's that consistent and good. With each loss they are now back to Cestaro's walk it up, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, hope for a three. Their two fastest best athletes/defenders guards were on the bench more than half the game against Tallmadge, and looking over their shoulders if they missed a shot when they were in. They haven't played pressure defense in weeks, and along with it, the losses.

I thought Highland played well and Tallmadge just played a little better. The difference in the game came when Highland was up 50-45. It looked like they might be running away with it but Tallmadge scored 8 straight and took the lead for good.

I think that Highland can make a run in the tournament. They suffer from the same issue that Tallmadge suffers, lack of size in the middle. If they can avoid teams with too much size, they could make a run to the district championship.

Agreed that they could and should make a run, IF they run like early on...2 guard Mall has gone from averaging 17 ish earlier down to maybe 8... he hasn't changed, just how they are told to play has. With no big, only chance is play fast and aggressive.

Last couple of games to determine the rest of the league standings after Copley. Safe to say that Kent will be last, Aurora sixth. Second through fifth still up in the air.

Keep working on your first team all-league selections for a starting five. I've made at least one change after seeing most of the second half of season.
