He is a very driven, hard working, respectful, intelligent kid. If you are an adult you should be embarrassed. He is on a path to be successful in life beyond basketball.....and no he should not be a junior as you seem to think.

No Hate, just facts.
Kid played on same AAU team as Smith from Rogers, Johnson from MV, Jarrett from St. Johns all were in 4th and 5th grade at the time. So are you telling me he was in 3rd grade playing up? Went to school with others on same team all are sophomores in high school, tell me how that works?

You've seen it before. Team A builds nice lead but not enough to prevent comeback. Team B starts to creep back and before you know it Team A is playing timid and Team B can all of a sudden do no wrong.
That is what happened last night with Stritch (Team A) and TC (Team B).
Couple takeaways...
Stritch started the game running some really nice half court offense and in the second half went away from it. Taylor get injured? I do not believe he played in the second half? Adams did not play much either. Tough to play without any height/size with Ochoa on the other team.
Really like Burton's game. Kid allows things to come to him and I know he can hit those deep threes but his strength to the team is penetrating which he seems to be able to do at will. A PG who can drive like he can compromises any defense.
There was a late stretch where Stritch had 5 straight possessions where Burton, Holifield, or Anderson did not shoot the ball and a couple down the liners forced some bad shots. All the meanwhile Gast from TC chucked up shots from wherever he stood and they went in. I swear TC shot 75% from the field in the 4th which happens in the comeback play out of your butt mode.
Stritch will learn to finish off a good team. They call it growing pains for a reason.
These two in the same division? Be nice to see a round 3.

You said held back 2 years. He just turned 16. So yes he could be a soph not a junior. He will graduate at 19, well within the OHSAA guidelines.

He could have been held back 2 years. I was 14 as a freshman and graduated at 17. However, I'm not sure what difference it makes regardless of if he's a freshman, soph or even junior because he's playing varsity where 90% of the kids are 16 or older. Therefore, sounds like hate when you make comments like that especially about a great kid that's had to deal with very unusual circumstances over the years ...These are facts. I'm glad I don't have a horse in the race because I couldnt deal with these sorta meaningless comments as a parent. #ridiculous

1st half Stritch got into the lane, to the foul line or dished to the big man in the post.
2nd half they settled for a ton of 3's that didn't fall. They were good looks, but sometimes it just isn't your day. Stick with what worked and get into the lane.
1st half TC had a bunch of unforced turnovers and couldn't seem to get any open looks.
2nd half I don't think Gast had anyone guarding within 10 feet of him the whole time. He knocked down 4 or 5 wide open 10 footers. Stritch did a decent job on everyone else. Ochoa came up big on the defensive side of the ball.
There were 2 plays that made a big difference in the game. The turnover and run out at the end of the 3rd and the corner 3 pointer when Stritch had 2 guys trapping the inbounder on a baseline out of bounds play. You don't see that much in high school because you don't have enough length at the strong side guard to cover the corner and recover to the wing. In the end, TC made a wide open 3 from the corner with 1 direct pass to an unguarded shooter.
Would have liked to see this one in person but watched Lima Sr. and the Javier Quinones show at Clay. Wow can he shoot.

Stritch is D3 Central District. There are some real tough teams Eastwood/Genoa and some teams who are better than their record Ottawa Hills/Swanton/Evergreen/Otsego.
Seed from last year and record for this year;
1. Swanton 5-9
2. Ottawa Hills 6-5
3. Eastwood 12-2
4. Gibsonburg 5-8
5. Genoa 10-3
6. Otsego 7-7
7. Stritch 9-3
8. Evergreen 7-8
9. Lake 5-10
10. Woodmore 5-9
11. Northwood 1-12
Toledo Christian is D4 Napoleon District. Tough district when MVCD could be a 6 or 7 seed this year.
1. Ayersville 11-0
2. Fayette 5-9
3. Toledo Christian 9-4
4. Edgerton 7-6
5. Hilltop 12-1
6. Hicksville 10-3
7. Holgate 11-2
8. Pettisville 9-5
9. Edon 1-11
10. Emmanuel Christian 2-10
11. MVCD 9-5
12. Stryker 4-10
13. North Central 4-11

Division IV Districts (Napoleon HS)
Sectional Bryan HS/Swanton HS
Teams Wins Losses
1. Ayersville 10 0 (bye)
2. Hilltop 12 1
3. Holgate 10 2
4. Toledo Christian 9 3
5. Hicksville 9 3
6. Maumee Valley 9 5
7. Pettisville 8 5
8. Edgerton 6 6
9. Fayette 5 8
10. Stryker 4 9
11. North Central 4 10
12. Emmanuel Christian 2 9
13. Edon 1 11
This could be brutal for the TAAC teams if the don't improve. TC already got manhandled at home by Ayersville in the second half.
MV has a chance to make some serious noise, it really depends on how quick they gel and how much they improve down the stretch. MV played Ayersville tough for a half last year in the tournament, downfall was guard play. Then sophomores, Johnson and Woodley had big games and gave Ayersville fits with their length and athleticism. Guard play is MV's strength now so will make for some good games potentially.
Side note I still believe come tournament time Cardinal Stritch and MV will be the TAAC best chance for teams to make a decent run. Both have skill and size, just very young at key positions.

Ottawa Hills at Stritch tonight. I expect this game to be much tighter than last time. OH seems to be getting it together (4-2 in last 6 with losses to good TC and Archbold teams) and have a little different look than their 1st meeting.
JV point guard getting varsity time and Coil is back healthy. Both help with depth.

OH beats Stritch in a tight game. Stritch had a small lead most of the game. OH did a good job stopping Stritch from getting into any offensive flow.

Surprised that game didn't get any coverage at all from local stations or BCSN.

TAAC game of the week:
TC vs MVCD. Anyone have thoughts on this game?
In the TAAC it is hard to judge if a team is improving because the schedules are so up and down.

Toss up game TC has gone 4-2 over last 6 with losses to D1 City Leader Bowsher and an overtime loss to D3 Liberty Benton. A more telling loss for them happened at home to D4 #1 ranked Ayersville. The are in the same tournament bracket. Game wasn't close until 3rd quarter when TC made run but after that Ayersville just pulled away and made it look easy.
MVCDS is coming in winners of 5 in a row against low competition other than N.Baltimore. Last loss came @ OH 60-54. That was Kynard's first game back, since that time they have won every game by more than double figures other than Gibsonburg which they won by 8. This next game will be an indicator of if the record indicates they are improving and getting on a roll or just a byproduct of inferior competition. They are a different team with Kynard.
Outlook, last game MVCDS outplayed TC down the stretch and did not execute in the last 2 minutes. Woodley vs Ochoa was a wash (Woodley 19/11 Ochoa 16/7) the key will be the guards. Jackson/Kynard/Jett vs Smith/Gleason/McGill. Whoever can get to 25-30 pts as a combo will win this game.

Stritch played earlier this week against Fostoria. It appears they were showing their youth by sleeping through the first quarter getting down 17 by the end. They were able to chip away and get turnovers and shots to fall in the fourth to squeak out a win.

I thought the story of Stritch game could be told by the 1st quarter vs 2nd-4th quarter shot charts. All jump shots in the 1st then everything in the key until a couple inside out 3's in the 4th quarter. A lot of their deep misses led to run outs and easy baskets. Fostoria doesn't run too much in the half court, but seemed like everything they threw up went in for most of the game.

TC is a veteran club with good coaching and it showed tonight. MVCD had better talent but did not utilize it in the second half.
Best big man in the league! Woodley thoroughly outplayed Ochoa in first half 15pts to 0, and finished with 21-14. MV went away from what worked and it cost them.
TC guards outplayed MV overall, experience huge this time of year.
Possible rematch in tournament.

It is safe to call Toledo Christian the 2016-2017 TAAC Champions. 3 way battle for 2nd, with Gibsonburg trying to play the spoiler.
Toledo Christian 12 - 4 10 - 0
Cardinal Stritch 12 - 4 7 - 3
Ottawa Hills 11 - 5 7 - 3
Maumee Valley Country Day 12 - 6 7 - 4
Gibsonburg 7 - 9 5 - 5
Danbury 5 - 11 3 - 7
Northwood 1 - 17 1 - 9
Emmanuel Christian 2 - 16 1 - 10
Can anyone figure out the significance of the Ottawa Hills non conference win vs Pettisville?

Does not do much for Ottawa Hills since they are D3 and Pettisville is D4. It does help MVCDS in rankings for Napoleon district to attempt to get a 4-5 seed down the stretch and avoid second round matchup with either Ayersville or Hilltop.

Toledo Christian made it official last night 2016-17 TAAC Champs, with their win over Ottawa Hills. Stritch won a good game vs MVCD. Stritch won the game by taking the ball to the hole at will especially in the 2nd half. There are going to be some great battles the next 3 years between these 2 teams.

How did Ottawa Hills jump Cardinal Stritch? 14-4 overall and 9-3 in conference vs 11-6 and 7-4 in league.

Ottawa Hills 12 - 6 8 - 4
Maumee Valley Country Day 12 - 7 7 - 5

MVCD vs Ottawa Hills should be a very good game.
Gburg vs Stritch will be tighter than last time too. Stritch got out to a huge lead early but game was pretty even after the 1st quarter.

MVCDS defeats OH in OT without Seiban hurt knee in practice MRI on Monday. Tale of two halfs, big for MV sat with foul trouble first half which allowed Roman to control post. Second half big for MVCDS dominate the glass and paint as well as overtime. scored 17 in second half on 6/7 shooting and 13 rebs pretty impressive

MVCDS dealt Montpelier out of BBC a loss 62-48 good tournament type team. MVCDS clamped down on guard Uribes who scored 41 the night before and pressured them all night. Woodley dominated the middle and paint finished with 23 pts and 23 rebs.
If MVCDS continues this type of defense and shares the ball, tournament run could be inevitable.

The game was very close at half with Gibsonburg leading 25-23. Apparently Kachmarik gave the "thou shalt play defense" speech at halftime. Stritch turned up the defense a notch or two and along with Gibsonburg foul trouble and terrible foul shooting, the Golden Bears only mustered three points in the second half. Two in the third quarter and one with under a minute to go. To be fair, Stritch struggled in the fourth missing a few layups and foul shots and only putting a couple on the board. 43-28 final.
Stritch travels to Swanton tomorrow and that will be a good measuring stick going into the tournament.

Swanton will have the best big combo Stritch has seen since the Mansfield St. Pete game. Swanton's bigs will not be impacted by physical play.
The team with the fewest turnovers should win this game.

TAAC First Team
Ochoa - TC (Player of the Year)
Holifield -Cardinal Stritch
Burton- Cardinal Stritch
Jackson - MVCDS
Sieben - Ottawa Hills
Smith - Toledo Christian
Who got screwed or left off this list? There are a couple players who deserved consideration.
