I hope I don't see anyone fat singing the National Anthem this week--tonight's a big one--hope to get a little payback for the Vikings taking down the Comets two weeks ago.

Gritty win for the Comets as they stay undefeated on the road with a 50-44 win over Princeton. Mason playing the Vikings without leading scorer Eddie Puisis (sprained ankle) for the 2nd time in two weeks, got a team effort from the other Comets to make up for Puisis 18 ppg. Tanner Knue led the Comets with 16 and Ben Schutte and Noah Pedelty contributed 9 each--Pedelty nailing 2 big 3's late in the 4th qtr. Hunter led the Vikes starters with 15 points on 4 of 18 shooting and Levy added 12 along with Bazely contributing 2 points and 2 rebounds to the cause.

Comets finish at Sycamore and need Fairfield to knock off Oak Hills to get a share of the GMC title.

I just dont understand the game plan for Bazley. Watching him for the last 10 games he can not go right. If he can't go left he just shuts down on offense. I did like how Leon sat him down most of the 2nd half so maybe he can be more aggressive on offense moving forward. But to be ranked the #1 player in the state, I have not seen that yet

Comet, why did Bazely only play 12 min? Doesn't seem to make any sense.

He only played 12 min because he played terrible on offense. He took 3 horrible shots and Leon took him out most of the 2nd half. Bazley has been great on defense the whole 10 games

Vike 16 has seen him play more than I have and likely is correct in his synopsis. In the 2 games vs. Mason he was 1 for 4 each game (a foul line jumper and a dunk last night when he was out ahead of everyone)--just doesn't seem to be involved very much offensively and the GMC isn't the CHL--Matt King guards folks very well. On the defensive end he does a decent job of helping teammates in the paint and changing shots around the rim, and gets his share of rebounds.

Ellison took him out quite a bit last night and he went down to the end of the bench to sit next to the JV coach maybe for some "coaching". The raw skill is there, but he has to have a very good summer to be the top player in the GMC in 17-18 IMO.

Had a few minutes today and below are the returning points for each school for 2017-18 season of players who have played in 1/2 of the games or more in the 16-17 season:

1. Colerain---44.9
2. Princeton--40.0
3. Lakota East--35.1
4. Hamilton--27.9
5. Sycamore--26.6
6. Mason--20.4
7. Lakota West--20.3
8. Fairfield--16.1
9. Oak Hills--16.0
10. Middletown--5.8

Could be the time for Colerain to make a move upward in hoops--Princeton losing just one starter and Bazely for a full season will be the likely favorite for the crown.

Philly, I think East will be better. They return 4 starters and have a couple guys coming up that will have an impact. Princeton will be pre-season #1.

But I still think they will be much of the same type of team as this year. Pretty good, but not really all that great. A team that can hang and sometimes beat the better teams, but can also lose to the lower teams on any given night. And it will put them right about where they finished this year in the league. Like I said, another bleh team to watch. I'd love to be proven wrong. I'd like some excitement. I just don't think it's happening.

I agree with your synopsis Vike--Princeton is the 17-18 favorite with 4 starters returning and 40 points of scoring. East (Cox and See back) and Mason (Knue and Pedelty back) battling for the 2 and 3 spots due to solid known scoring returning, continuity in coaching with Richards and Adkins, and Mason getting help from an 18-2 JV squad that has some shooters that fit the offense to a T.

Hamilton has the three Sophs (Howard, Robinson and Brunck) to build around and definitely should be in the top 1/2 of the league and I do see Colerain being able to be in the 7-8 league wins depending how the schedule shakes out. Sycamore,Fairfield, West, and Oak Hills have some major graduation holes to fill and the Middies are going to be way down!!

With the completion of another regular season in the GMC congrats go out to the 15-1 Oak Hills Highlanders--great season for Coach Price as they held off Mason at 14-2 for the title.

Going back over the past ten seasons, which covers the current composition of the GMC, here are the overall records and championships/co-championships for each of the ten schools:

1. Mason (99-47) with championships in 2015 and 2016
2. Middletown (97-49) with championships in 2011,2012,2013,and 2014
3. Princeton (90-56) with championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011
4/5. Lakota West and East (88-58) with a West championship in 2013 and East in 2015
6. Oak Hills (77-69) with championships in 2008 and 2017
7. Fairfield (72-74) with championships in 2013 and 2014
8. Sycamore (45-101) with a championship in 2013
9. Hamilton (43-103) no championships past 10 years
10. Colerain (31-115) no championships past 10 years

Mason, Middletown, Princeton, Oak Hills and Fairfield with multiple championships/co-championships over the 10 years to show the balance in the league--have heard rumors that Sycamore and Lebanon (GWOC) are looking to move to the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, so there may be an opening in the GMC soon if that actually occurs.

Can't say I have any inside knowledge but haven't heard of any league movement. Why would Sycamore leave the GMC?

I was told that the main reason is that Sycamore is becoming the smallest school in the GMC and actually fits better with Milford, Loveland, Kings, Turpin, Anderson (lost to all of these schools except Turpin this past season in basketball) than most of the other GMC schools at this point, and the feeling they'll have a better chance across the board to compete for league championships in the ECC rather than the GMC. Time will tell!

OK Comet, they are the smallest but they are always in top 3-4 of All Sports Award. Your Comets have owned that for awhile.

Congrats Vike and thanks for keeping the totals each week--just a shame BballJim didn't stick with making picks during the "After Christmas" session of the pick-em.

Hopefully the GMC puts on a good performance in the tourney and someone makes a run at the Final 4!
